Iyanla forces Taryll to reveal the causes of his pain.
Iyanla and Taryll Jackson have their first sit-down. Iyanla did not like how Taryll felt he was punishing himself with bad relationships.
“Why do you feel the need to punish yourself?” -Iyanla
Taryll reveals that he was molested as a child.
Taryll then revealed that as a child, a relative molested him. However, Taryll emphasized that it was not his uncle Michael Jackson or any of Michael’s brothers.
“I want to be clear… It was a relative, but it wasn’t any of my father’s brothers.” – Taryll to Iyanla
Taryll feels guilty about Michael’s death.
Despite being happy with the reveal of one cause, Iyanla knew he had more traumatic events he dealt with. She then asked him about the death of his uncle Michael and the murder of his mother.
He first spoke about his uncle.
“I don’t feel I was there as much as he’s been there for me. I feel bad that he felt he couldn’t reach out to me.” – Taryll to Iyanla
He also feels guilty for his mother’s murder.
He feels extremely guilty about being unable to stop his mom’s murder. However, like the other pain he’d dealt with, he internalized it and kept it to himself.
Taryll says he always had a bad feeling about his mother’s killer.
Taryll always had a “horrible feeling” about his mother’s killer, way before her murder. He also claims that her killer wanted money from the Jackson family.
“He beat her up, because he wanted money. He wanted my mom to ask my uncle… she wouldn’t do it.” – Taryll to Iyanla
The results of holding on to the pain leads to struggles with his girlfriend but they are able to work through it and stay together.
Iyanla helps Taryll understand that his internalizing of the pains of his life are causing him and his girlfriend to grow apart. The revelations during their meetings leads Iyanla to believe that the two will improve their relationship.
At the end of the show, it’s revealed that Taryll Jackson and his girlfriend are still together. They used the lessons from Iyanla to continue working on their relationship.
What are your thoughts on the episode?
Glad Iyanla could help.
Only sick and evil people hurt children.
I always thought he was gay. He kinda looks girly.
Breana sure loves to dig for gold and lie about people. Never seen anyone so selfish, wow!
