Survivor’s Remorse Recap: Cam & M Chuck Learn More About Their Fathers + Reggie Finds Trouble

Cam is nervous about seeing his father.

The episode opens up with Cam at a press conference. Missy asks Reggie how Cam handles the daunting task so often and Reggie gives her a very simple answer:

“Weed. Lots of weed.” – Reggie

One reporter asks Cam why so many black people are in prison. This angers M-Chuck and Cassie has to tell her to calm down so she won’t embarrass Cam.

Cam answers the question.

“Listen, man. I went to the University of New Hampshire. There were no black people.” – Cam

A Japanese reporter asks Cam if there is a black person alive who ever rooted for a white tennis player against Serena Williams.

“Highly unlikely. But if there was anybody, my guess would be Kanye.” – Cam

“No, no, no. Why did he take the bait?” – Missy

“Eh, sometimes weed works like that.” – Reggie

Cam elaborates further:

“Serena is an all time great, she inspires me and many others. There’s nothing better than a black queen achieving new levels of greatness.” – Cam

The nothing better part bothers the Japanese reporter and she questions if Cam means that he couldn’t be happy for non black female athletes because they aren’t black.

Cassie whispers for Chen to check his girl, but he points out that the reporter is Japanese.

“She’s not my girl. You’re my girl.” – Chen

“Oh, that’s my billionaire boo.” – Cassie

Cassie and Chen start kissing as the press conference continues.

A young boy walks up to the podium and asks Cam why he’s trying to reconnect with is father after all these years. Cam is stumped by the question and asks the child how he knows what he’s been up to in his personal life.

“Ain’t it past your bedtime? Why are you so interested anyway?” – Cam

“Because I’m you, at age 11.” – little boy

Cam awakens in his car, as his driver gets frustrated in the Boston traffic.

“Are we almost there?” – Cam

Yes sir. Just moments away.” – Cam’s driver

Cam enter the prison to see his father.

After he checks in with security, his father has seat at the visitor table.

“Oh, you’ve grown since the last time I’ve seen you.” – Cam’s dad

“I don’t remember the last time I’ve seen you.” – Cam

“It was 24 years ago. Two days before Christmas. You cried a lot. Wasn’t pretty. Why today?” – Cam’s dad

Cam tells him he lost in the playoffs and it’s tough on him emotionally, but he had some unexpected free time.

His dad tells him he thought he played well. Cam is surprised his father watches his games and he once again asks Cam why he came. Cam just shrugs and this annoys his father. He prepares to leave and sticks out his hand to shake Cam’s, but Cam tells him not to leave because he’s not trying to agitate him.

“Why have you never reached out?” – Cam

Cam suspects he’s only interested in his basketball career and when she asks his father if he knows his birthday, he spits it out quickly.

“October 26th. Do you know mine?” – Cam’s dad

He tells Cam he’s been locked up since he was 17 and that’s all on him. However, his father reveals that he used to write Cam when he was a kid but never got any responses back.

Cam doesn’t believe this but his father says it’s the truth and he doesn’t resent it because he understands it.

“I never got any letters.” – Cam

“Look, man. I ain’t going nowhere. If you have some unexpected free time, holler at your mama and ask her about what I just said. Then if you want to visit again, chances are I’ll be right here.” – Cam’s dad

His father ends the conversation and lets the guard know he’s ready to go back to his cell.

Reggie gets into some serious trouble.

After he abruptly ends his conversation with his estranged father, Reggie leaves the diner they met at.

He’s emotionally distraught and accidentally hits the car parked next to him with his car door.

When the driver of said vehicle calls Reggie out about this, it leads to an argument.

“Don’t tell me you dented my car.” – Angry driver

“It’s fine.” – Reggie

“Don’t tell me it’s fine! I’ll say it’s fine a*shole.” – Angry driver

The driver’s girlfriend then exits the car and gets in Reggie’s face. She claim Reggie chipped the paint and Reggie scoffs.

“I’m gonna need for you to run me some money for this door, b*tch.” – Angry driver

A tall man then exists the vehicle from the backseat.

“Is this a f*cking clown car? How many people you got in here?” – Reggie

Then the last person in the car, a flamboyant man, exits.

“Just one more.” – flamboyant man

They threaten to jump Reggie if he doesn’t give them cash and he nonchalantly throws cash in the driver’s face. His girlfriend is not amused.

“He’s treating you like a chick at Magic City…f*ck his a*s up. I’ll get the money!” – Angry driver’s girlfriend

The angry driver then pushes Reggie and they start fist fighting. One of the male passengers jumps in while the flamboyant one screams and gets back in the car.

Reggie holds his own for a minute until he falls on the ground. At this point, Reggie’s father jumps in and tackles one of the men.

“I got this one.” – Reggie’s dad

Reggie and his father take on the two men.

Cops roll by and decide they don’t want to intervene.

After Reggie and his dad begin to get the upper hand, the angry driver’s girlfriend runs up and hits Reggie in the head with a bottle. He falls to the ground and the flamboyant man tells her he’s glad she did it because he was about to do the same.

She yells for everyone to get back in the car but the angry driver then starts fighting Reggie’s father. He then gets jumped by the two men and ends up on the concrete next to a knocked out Reggie.

The angry driver and his passengers jump in the car and speed off.

Mary Charles visits Pookie for more answers.

He’s surprised to see her and he invites her in after she tells him she wants to know what happened to Cassie in Long Island.

It’s revealed that Pookie is a friend of M Chuck’s deceased uncle Julius.

She figured out that Pookie was the driver to Long Island the night Cassie was raped and she asks him who raped Cassie.

He tells her to call Cassie and M Chuck says she can’t because Cassie is in Shanghai plus she warned M Chuck not to bring up the topic again.

“So why aren’t you listening to her?” – Pookie

Missy calls her mom to vent about Reggie.

Her mother grills her for taping photos of Reggie’s dad to punching bags. She feels like doing so will only make Reggie difficult.

“Mom, it’s not that Reggie is difficult. It’s that life can be.” – Missy

Missy’s father rolls over and asks Missy’s mother to finish her conversation in another room.

Missy says Reggie told her she can’t understand his relationship with his father because she has great parents.

Missy’s Mom agrees and she tells her that she has nothing in common with Reggie and it’s only a matter of time before they end up getting a divorce.

This frustrates Missy’s dad and he interjects and tells Missy that she and Reggie will be just fine. He ends the telephone conversation and tells Missy’s mother that he had to stop her from causing destruction.

M Chuck calls Cassie and gets permission to quiz Pookie.

As Cassie struggled to unclog the toilet from her waste, M Chuck calls her and tells her she’s in Boston at Pookie’s looking for answers about her father.

Cassie tells her to let it go but M Chuck tells her she can’t.

Cassie finally surrenders and tells M Chuck knows more about what happened that night than she wants to know.

Cassie tells M Chuck that Pookie has her permission to come clean and they end the conversation.

Reggie’s dad tries to clean up their mess.

Back in the parking lot, Reggie is now conscious and his father tells him he probably has a concussion and they need to call Missy.

This angers Reggie and he only agrees to allowing his dad to drive him to the hospital using his car.

Cam gets answers from Cassie.

He comes clean and tells Cassie he saw his father, Rodney Barker. She tells him M Chuck is in Boston to doing the same thing.

When he tells Cassie that Rodney said he wrote letters, Cassie eventually confirms he did but she never gave them to Cam because she didn’t want him to spiral out of control emotionally.

She tells him she left the letters at their old place on the day they were evicted.

Cassie can’t understand why Cam wants to reconnect with his father but he tells her that it’s important to him.

She admits that she met Rodney at the fair and has s*x with him nine times.

Pookie comes clean to M Chuck.

“There were three of them. Two brothers and their cousin. 15, 16 years old. Your uncle went to find her the next morning and he found her walking. She had a lot of bruises, and a lot of scrapes. She had rope burns on her wrists.” – Pookie

When M Chuck questions how the men got away with the heinous act, Pookie tells her they didn’t. Although they weren’t locked up, they were killed and buried in a cemetery nearby.

M Chuck demands he drives her to the cemetery. He reluctantly agrees.

Reggie’s dad calls Missy.

When Reggie is taken back to be examined at the hospital, his dad calls Missy to tell her what happened.

“Missy, it’s Trent Vaughn.” – Reggie’s dad
