‘Insecure’ Recap: Molly Gets Frustrated with Dro + Daniel Takes Things Too Far With Issa

Molly feels awkward.

The episode opens with Issa waking up to an alarm. She rushes out of bed to move her totaled car to the other side of the street. A guy outside tells her that bumper is falling and she gets annoyed and replies, “Thanks!”

Molly is working late when Dro calls her. As she looks at the phone, she sighs and then answers. Dro tries to make conversation but Molly is acting distant. She feels weird about their friendship after sleeping together, despite Dro being married.

“Am I the only one tripping that we had s*x?” – Molly

Dro assures her that it’s nothing to worry about. Luckily for Molly, her mom calls, giving her an out from the phone call. When she hangs up with Dro, she sends her mom’s call to voicemail.

She’s still having mixed feelings about her parents after discovering that her father cheated on her mother years ago, but they remained married.

Issa gets left hanging by her Neighbor-Bae.

Issa is on the bus and a guy side eyes her as she looks at him. When she’s walking back to her apartment, she tries to hook up with Daniel via text, but gets no response.

Finally in her apartment, Issa goes through her emails and sees an invite to the Sexplosion conference from Tiffany. Issa’s intrigued by the invite.

“I could use a sexplosion.” – Issa

Issa then looks out her window to see what neighbor-bae is up to. Seeing a light on in his place, she decides to go for it. She’s getting dressed, and freshening up, all the while hyping herself up in the bathroom.

“What you gonna ask him? Whose gonna get that d***? You.” – Issa

However, when she goes down to his place, she takes him by surprise. When he opens the door, she hears a woman asking him for a charger. He tells her that she’s an Econ classmate tutoring him. He also mentions that he didn’t know what their situation was.

He also lets her know that he wishes she would have let him know she was coming by.

“If I knew we were like this, I would’ve been up them stairs a long time ago.” – Neighbor-Bae

Issa is frustrated by this but just says, “Thats what’s up.” Neighor-Bae then closes the door. Daniel replies back to Issa’s earlier text, saying he is busy in the studio.

The only “play” Issa got from any guy was from Thug Yoda, who asked for “Bleenex” & “Blorox” bleach.

Lawrence pitches his Woot Woot app at work, and things appear to go well.

Lawrence is at work the next day pitching his Woot Woot app. When the presentation is over, his bosses seemed to be really impressed with the app presentation, but they did not have any questions. However, they were more interested in his shoes than the actual app.

Issa and Molly are at a repair shop to get an estimate for Issa’s totaled car. Molly is using the time to vent about the confusion in her friendship with Dro. She wants to get back to normal, but knows things have changed with him after sleeping together.

“Dro is the one n**** in my life that’s seen me at my worst. Girl, he took me to prom back when I was wearing all pink like Beyoncé in ‘Check On It.’” – Molly

Molly decides that she wants to keep things platonic after all. Issa gets angry when she’s told the repair will be $5,500.

Issa expresses frustration with her hoetation.

In Molly’s car, Issa vents about her car and her hoetation. She feels that Nico has been interfering with her mojo. She’s got a plan for him, however.

“He distracted me with his fine a** face. But Ima tell him to shut the f*** up, and get in my hoetation.” – Issa

Molly cheers her on.

“That’s the hoe spirit.” – Molly

Back at work, Lawrence talks to Aparna about his presentation. She tells him that he needs to lower his expectations, and that Woot Woot was outdated. She knows this because their bosses didn’t ask any questions, and kinda side-stepped it because they didn’t want to offend him.

Lawrence disagrees and feels like his app was well received.

Molly still considers ending things with Dro, until he drops key information about his marriage.

Molly meets with Dro at the sports bar to watch a Lakers game. She wants to break things off with him, but Dro continues to charm her with his humor. Dro and Molly sleep with each other again.

Nico gets turned off.

Nico stops by to pick up Issa for a date. But, Issa has other plans. She wears a small white skirt and a top, exposing her bra. She ate extremely flirty, offering a glass of wine. She then turns on a song Nico told her about, and starts making out with him.

Nico stops her advances and tells her that he wants to take things slow. At this point, Issa is frustrated, declining his invitation to the restaurant.

Nico decides to leave after Issa makes it clear that she doesn’t want to go out an actual date.

Dro is with Molly in the bed, and he brings up what she said about their fling being a one time ting. They have now slept together four times. He tells her that she can see other people if she chooses to and he admits that he slept with other women while being married.

Dro also tells Molly that his wife Candace gave them the idea to have an open relationship.

“She never wanted any of us to feel like we are limiting ourselves.” – Dro

Lawrence realizes his app wasn’t a hit.

The next day, Lawrence heads to talk to his bosses to see if they had any questions about Woot Woot. However, they still acted how they did at the pitch, and tell him he brings a lot to the team.

However, they don’t seem all that interested in the app.

“We can’t wait to see Lawrence 2.0.” – Lawrence’s Bosses

They also ask about his shoes again.

Tiffany gives advice about pleasing men.

At the Sexplosion conference, Tiffany points out a blow job tutorial. This leads to a conversation about giving oral. Tiffany is the only one enthusiastic about the topic. Kelli brings up a story about having a negative experience with a guy who had “musty balls.” Issa agrees with Kelli, and also says she isn’t the best at it. Issa really doesn’t want to learn either, having to deal with the intimacy of it all.

“The whole eye contact thing, and the spitting, it’s just too intimate. Like I have to really f*** with you to put your d*** in my mouth.” – Issa

Tiffany retorts, “But you don’t mind if a guy puts his d*** in you?”

She elaborates.

“I just don’t understand black women, and their hang ups with oral sex.” – Tiffany

Issa feels that guys look at black women as hoes if they give oral. Molly says she isn’t a fan but she’ll return the favor if a guy goes down on her first.

Issa scoffs at Tiffany’s notions on the subject, calling her a “becky.”

Tiffany then reminds her friends that she is the only one married.

“You mean becky with the good ring.” – Tiffany

Tiffany then says that she is in control when she does it, and insists doing it makes her feel powerful.

Lawrence shares an unexpected bond with Aparna.

Lawrence talks to Aparna about her feedback. He tells her she is right, and that their bosses weren’t comfortable with giving him actual feedback on the presentation because he is black. Aparna then explains she can relate to how Lawrence feels by telling how she pitched a potential Uber rival called Drive-By.

During their conversation, it seems that they have a connection with one another, perhaps being minority “tokens” at the start-up. They make extended eye contact.

Lawrence breaks the moment by cracking a joke about her app name.

Issa gets “splashed” by Daniel, and Molly gets ditched after Candace calls Dro.

Issa is over at Daniel’s place and is listening to his new song. She likes it, but she wants to get busy with him. Daniel is wooing her by making her favorite drink of champagne mixed with a shot of whiskey. Issa then initiates a quick make out session and decides to take Tiffany’s advice. She pulls off his shirt and then sits him on the couch, then getting on her knees.

Meanwhile, Molly is in a bathtub in a hotel room with Dro. As they are kicking it, Dro gets a text from Candace. He has to rush out and tells Molly that she’s locked out. He tells Molly to enjoy her time at the hotel he booked and he will be free next weekend. She gets frustrated after he leaves.

Still on her knees, Issa is really getting into her session with Daniel. He grabs the back of her head, and his legs are shaking. Not too long after the impending climax, he releases in Issa’s face, with some of it getting in her eye.

Issa is shocked and appalled by this. She screams at him, demanding to know why he did this. Daniel is confused and doesn’t understand why Issa is so offended.

“I thought we were having fun. Like, you seemed like you was down for whatever.” – Daniel

Issa pushes him and yells, telling him she didn’t ask him to climax on her face. Daniel then says, “I didn’t ask you to suck my d***.”

Things then get more intense.

“F*ck you.” – Issa

She throws his shirt at him and then storms out of the house.

At a nearby gas station, she calls for a Uber ride share. She gets in with 3 other passengers as she holds a napkin over her eye. The driver makes a joke about her name, and a white woman asks to change the radio to a black station.

The episode ends with Issa looking out of the car ashamed of what happened.

  1. This show went from being smart and bold, to dumb and attention whorish. It’s like they don’t care about the plots anymore and just want to keep writing s-x scenes people will tweet about.

  2. Issa is really getting on my nerves. It’s like she goes out her way to disrespect anyone who isn’t willing to treat her like a booty call. It’s insane.

  3. I think it’s time for Issa to be honest with herself. She’s not the kind of girl who can be happy having a hotation. She is a relationship kind of person. She’s trying to be something she’s not because it’s easier to do that than deal with the pain of losing Lawrence.

  4. This episode was hilarious. And Issa shouldn’t be too mad at Daniel. I just don’t think it was that serious.

  5. I can understand why Issa got mad at Daniel. I mean she already doesn’t even do it like that because she doesn’t like it and she feels like a man will treat her less than for doing it. Then he gets off on her face, making her feel less than. I totally get it.

  6. Issa does Daniel so wrong. She really should just cut him off if she knows she doesn’t want anything substantial with him since he clearly has feelings for her.
