Y’lan Noel plays Daniel on HBO’s hit comedy, “Insecure.”
And when it comes to Daniel, not everyone is in the “Lawrence Hive.”
In fact, many fans of the show have taken to social media to make it clear that they prefer that Issa ends up with Daniel, instead of going back to Lawrence (even after that disaster that went down on the last episode).
Interestingly enough, Daniel says that the responses to the show have caused him to become cynical about relationships in real life.
Here’s an excerpt of his interview with The Fader:
People like seeing you and Issa together. They don’t want her to “mess it up.”
Me personally, I’m not so mad at Issa. What got under my skin last season was that she wasn’t honest. One thing I do dislike, are cowards. People who aren’t honest with other people and that’s what she did to my man. So I wasn’t feeling her. But this season, she told my mans exactly what she was feeling. When she was triggered into it being more than what she wanted, in that scene when he comes to pick her up, she was honest and that shows growth. So I applauded her for that. A lot of people were like, “just be quiet let it rock.” Nah, if somebody was telling me that, you just did me a favor.
The show sparked a lot of conversations about relationships. What’s one of the most important issues it exposed for you?
It showed me that a lot of people rather not expose much in order to save somebody’s feelings. I was talking to this dude and he was like “if my girl ever cheat on me, don’t tell me” and I was like “what?! Let me know immediately.” I feel like when the people in Insecure are honest, the characters learn the most. This show has grown my cynicism a little a bit about relationships just because the way men and women responded to the fact that Issa was cheating on her boyfriend.

Yeah the comments on social media have been really, really interesting. But relationships are hard point blank period. Most of us are just plain out selfish.
LOL. I think most people can relate. Anyway after last week, I doubt Daniel and Issa end up together.
I think this show has everyone feeling some type of way.
I prefer Daniel over Lawrence. Daniel seems more authentic than Lawrence.
Yeah, Lawrence is all over the map. In my opinion he listens to his boy’s too much and has been screwing women more than Issa. He cannot forgive her but she is supposed to forgive him? So I guess he will be with his co-worker and Issa will find new love somewhere on the last episode is how it looks. I liked Daniel. He was sexy to me and I think Issa liked him too but she just did not want to be hurt again. I dunno it’s a big mess!
