Young Hollywood Doubles Down on Insensitive Comments About Amara La Negra

Young Hollywood will probably continue to be a controversial figure amongst the LHHMIA cast.

On the first episode, he was pretty insensitive to Amara when she discussed the hardships she faces in the music industry as an Afro Latina.

He also told her she shouldn’t rock her afro consistently and she should change up her look.

Amara, rightfully so, was offended by his remarks and so were many of the show’s viewers.

And in this week’s “Check Yourself,” Young Hollywood doubled down on the insensitive comments.

On Amara’s afro, he still feels she should rock different hairstyles:

Maybe sometimes you may, you know what I’m saying, wanna twist it up, do some braids, do some cornrows. Flat iron it a little bit, put it to the side, little bob, you know what I’m saying?

He also said that Amara may really be offended by his comments because he’s not interested in dating her:

I think Amara was getting upset with me because she wasn’t getting what she’s used to. I’m pretty sure a lot of fools be drooling and thirsty and all just…trying to catch a vibe. But I’m good.

  1. The fact that he thinks the only reason Amara was offended by what he said is because he doesn’t want to date her lets me know he doesn’t seen an issue with what he actually said. And that’s a problem.

  2. Amara a beautiful woman…Mona knew what she was doing for keeping that clip too get audiences talking on colorism. Now Ms.Shay Johnson and that guy arguing was funny. Other than that highlights of the show was Amara,Shay, and pretty ricky.

  3. I’m so glad people are finally discussing the colorism in the Latino community. Don’t even get me started on how they treat dark skinned Cubans.
