Fame hasn’t been easy for Michael B. Jordan.
In fact, the “Black Panther” star oftentimes receives skepticism from black women because he hasn’t publicly dated one since bursting into stardom.
He’s also been rumored of dating non-black women, so his latest Instagram post came off as pandering to some of his critics.

The comments that followed were…interesting.
So Michael responded in an interview with Essence Magazine.
Here’s what he had to say when asked how he feels about people thinking he doesn’t date black women:
It’s so funny to everybody because it couldn’t be further from the truth. My dad and my mom both said, ‘If they only knew.’ If they only knew. And that’s the thing that keeps me not tripping about it, you know what I mean?
It makes me hesitant about whoever I’m seen with. I’m finally starting to get to a place now where I don’t care, but it bothered me for a minute. It made me more conscious of things I say and how I move, and what could happen if I leave a club or a restaurant or the movies. If I leave anywhere, any known place with anybody, there’s going to be speculation.
The actor also told the publication that growing up the way he did, it’s not possible that he doesn’t love and appreciate his own race.
People need to stop. He’s been with Black women.
I really don’t care who he dates. Just don’t pander.
I kind of wish he would stop answering this question.
Are people outraged that Serena’s husband is white? No. I didn’t think so. I guess it’s only an issue when a black man doesn’t date/marry black.
