When daughters go off the rails, in most instances, Iyanla looks at their moms. Nakeda’s mother, Illysha, is no different. Illysha has been raising five of Nakeda’s six children.
Iyanla asks why, exactly, does Illysha continue to raise grandchildren, and removing Nakeda of her parental responsibility.
To find out, Iyanla counsels Illysha, pointing out that it was Illysha who did a subpar job, as a young parent herself, preparing Nakeda to be a parent.
During their conversation, Illysha points out that she never put her foot down about her daughter having kids.
“Did you equip her, or did you just take the responsibility because you were afraid she couldn’t do it?” – Iyanla
Illustrating this point, Iyanla describes Nakeda sending her children as if they were fruit.
“Sent them in the mail like fruit.” – Iyanla
Iyanla also meets with Nakeda, learning that her latest child was fathered by a married man.
“This makes no sense to me. That’s crazy as h***!” – Iyanla
