Tonight, CBS’ Gayle King finished an interview with the embattled R. Kelly, who’s returning to court March 22nd to face 10 counts of aggravated criminal s*xual abuse.
In the first clip, Robert tells Gayle that this case is nothing more than people trying to re-try him on the charges he beat in 2008.
I sit here and say this: I beat two cases back then that I will not speak about due to my ongoing case now.
But, I will tell you this: people are going back to my past. That’s what exactly what they’re doing; they’re going back to my past, and they’re trying to add all of this stuff from now, to that. [It] makes all of this stuff that’s going on now feel real to people.
When Gayle says what’s going on now is relevant to him being accused of being with underaged girls, R. adamantly says it is not.
Well for one, I beat my case. When you beat something, you beat it. We can’t double jeopardy me like that. It’s not fair; it’s not fair to nobody. When you beat your case, you beat your case.
Things get rather emotional when R. Kelly answers Gayle’s question of ever holding people against their will.
Why would I? How stupid would I be for R. Kelly, with all I’ve been through in my way, way past to hold somebody, let alone five, six, 50 you said. How stupid would I be to do that?
That’s stupid guys!
Finally he finds a camera pointed to him, looks into it and makes a passionate plea, denying everything he’s been accused of.
That’s stupid! Use your common sense. Forget the blogs, forget how you feel about me. Hate me if you want to; love me if you want to. But, just use your common sense.
How stupid would it be for me, with my crazy past and what I’ve been through… Oh, I think I need to be a monster and hold girls against their will. Tie them up in my basement, and don’t let them eat, and don’t let them out. Unless, they need some shoes they can get down the street from they uncle.
Stop it! Y’all quit playing. I didn’t do this stuff! This is not me! I’m fighting for my [bleep] life!
Check out the clip below.
As the interview went viral, Michael Avenatti, the attorney for one of the accusers tweeted about the interview. According to Michael, R. Kelly basically admitted to assaulting the underage girls and doesn’t know anything about “double-jeopardy.”
Watch this please. Importantly, R. Kelly does NOT deny sexually assaulting underage girls. In fact, his answer demonstrates his guilt. He fails to understand that it doesn’t matter “how long ago” it happened. And he also has no clue as to how “double jeopardy” works. https://t.co/ntGt8I5zBC
