‘Insecure’ Recap: Lawrence Confronts Issa About Condola + Molly Feels Neglected

Andrew gets his “cake” after dinner.

Andrew and Molly are out on their date when he gets an aggravating work call. Molly asks him about the call, but he decides to keep the details to himself. But he doesn’t let it distract him from his date with Molly or their nightcap later on.

Issa and Condola talk about Lawrence.

Meanwhile, it’s three months before the block party and Condola’s walking the site where Issa wants to host the event. Condola’s impressed with Issa’s plans but things get awkward when Condola’s trip with Lawrence comes up.

However, they look past it and continue to be friendly. Later on, Issa and Molly are with Kelli and Tiffany for Halloween. All of them are in costume ready to pass out candy. Molly vents to their friends about Andrew not opening up to her. Tiffany feels that Molly needs to open up to him about him not opening up, and possibly slowing down. But Issa feels Molly is just looking for something to take issue with.

Issa gets a scare.

Later on, Issa’s spending some good quality time with TSABae in the bedroom. Once they finish, He realizes the c*ndom was stuck inside her. This sends Issa into a panic. Luckily, she’s able to get it to come out when she runs to the bathroom.

The next morning, Molly calls Andrew to invite him over after work. She then runs into her co-worker who really isn’t feeling her. Lawrence is also with Condola when it comes up that she was talking to Issa about him. It wasn’t anything serious but it makes Lawrence uncomfortable. While with his boys, Lawrence tells them he’s completely not comfortable with Issa getting friendly with Condola.

They tell him no matter what, he has to be upfront with Condola about it.

Issa’s out with Condola on a work date when Molly walks in. When Issa invites Condola to stay, things get uncomfortable with Molly. She was hoping to be able to vent to Issa about Andrew in private.

Lawrence politely asks Issa to keep his name out of her mouth.

The next day, Lawrence rides by Issa’s complex, texting Issa he’s outside. She responds and comes out to talk and Lawrence politely asks Issa to stop talking about him with Condola. He really likes Condola and wants it to work out. Issa happily obliges. That night, Molly’s cooking gumbo when Andrew stops by. Andrew tries to put his moves on Molly and she shuts that down, noting that she wants to chill and talk. As they’re eating, Molly’s opening up about her family and past. Andrew stays guarded.

Molly touches a sore spot about Andrew and his sister and he doesn’t want to talk about it. Molly then opens up about him not opening up. This frustrates him and he leaves. This upsets Molly and she finishes off a bottle of red wine. Meanwhile, Issa’s outside the Schoolboy Q show when she calls Lawrence. She asks if she should say something about their conversation to Condola and he says no. While at the show, Molly calls Issa but Issa doesn’t pick up and texts she’ll reach out after the concert.

The next morning, Molly’s in a meeting at work with Taurean and the partners. After the meeting, Taurean visits Molly in her office. After going off on her, Molly apologizes for how she behaved with him on a past case. He seemingly accepts.

Andrew promises to open up.

During their Sunday hike, Molly vents about Andrew walking out on their date. Issa tells Molly that she’s always finding a problem in the men she dates. So it doesn’t seem like Molly wants to be happy. And Issa is tired for her. Next, Molly gets a call from Andrew who apologizes. He says he’ll open up to her as it may take some time. That makes Molly smile but she avoids telling Issa about the call. Issa opens up about letting go of TSA Bae. Apparently he had two kids with a third one on the way, and she felt like things were getting too serious.

The episode ends with Molly staring off in the distance as Issa expresses how difficult it was to let go of TSA Bae. It’s clear that Molly is feeling as if her friendship with Issa has become one-sided.
