Maclean scores a win, Ghost prepared.
Tariq has another day in court. Jenny the DA tells the jury that Tariq may look innocent but he’s a murderer. This isn’t a case of another innocent black man being thrown into the system. She believes Ramirez’s badge being found in Tariq’s dorm room makes him guilty. Jenny also says that she has audio of Tariq revealing his motive. At this point, Maclean says this should be nonadmissible since the DA never told him there was audio. The judge agrees. And he orders Jenny to surrender the audio to the court so Maclean’s team can hear it so they can prepare a defense.
Outside of the courtroom, the estate attorney Daniel tells Tariq that Ghost made a lot of plans for Yasmine if she were to lose her whole family. Now that Tariq has lost custody, Ghost had it set up in his will that Yasmine is to be adopted by another family. Her last name is to be changed to protect her from whoever may have wiped out the family. Yasmine’s adoption records will also be sealed so she can’t be found.
Tariq is shocked to hear this. Before departing, Daniel tells Tariq to save himself if he wants to save Yasmine.
After they wrap up in court, Maclean tells Tariq to get him his money by the next day. Or he’ll let a public defender send him to prison.
Monet slips up.
Back at the Tejada house, Monet tells Diana they can get back on good terms if Diana finds out some information on Lorenzo’s dealings. Dante/Mecca continues to call Monet’s phone. Monet lies, telling Diana that it’s Zeke’s agent on the phone. When she goes to the bedroom and locks the door, Diana hears Monet asking why he keeps calling. Simultaneously, Cane walks in on Dante while he’s on the phone and he rushes to hide the engagement ring he bought for Monet.
Cane alerts Mecca that his plane is ready. Mecca tells Monet that he’s ready for them to be together and Monet tells him to stop contacting her because she doesn’t play games. Diana hears all of this from outside the door.
Diana gets closer to the truth.
Lauren and her parents are told by Jenny that she must take the stand in front of Tariq. They want her to talk about what Tariq said on the wire about the book Jabari was writing. This is what Jenny referred to as Tariq admitting his motive on tape. Lauren really doesn’t want to do this. But she is told she has no choice.
Diana finds an old Bible that has a baby photo of Zeke. She makes a phone call asking for Zeke’s birth records and she learns he wasn’t born in 2002.
It’s time for the right plan.
Tariq meets up with Effie, Brayden, Cane, and Monet. They all need money and drugs to sell. So Tariq believes they should steal Mecca’s drugs. That way they will finally have product since Mecca cut them out for Dru and Lorenzo. And they will have the GTG do their dirty work. Cane says they will need Dru to play a role to take things up a notch.
Cane and Monet need Dru to allow Cane to kill Lil Guap. Dru says no. He’ll only agree to the plan if he’s the one who pulls the trigger. Monet must keep herself busy so she’ll have an alibi. She will go out with Lorenzo. And Tariq is to contact Diana to keep her out the way. She texts him agreeing to hang out.
Lauren is exposed.
Tariq meets Maclean in his office. Maclean leaves the office so Tariq can play the audio for himself. Tariq hears himself talking to Lauren about Jabari’s book. He says it’s not about Brayden and Jabari likes to write about black people. So it’s definitely not Brayden he wrote about.
Angered by this revelation, Tariq storms off. Saxe catches up to him and says Lauren was forced into the situation because Milgram manipulated her into wearing a wire. He warns Tariq not to do anything “too St. Patricky” and to stay away from Milgram and Lauren. However, Tariq can’t do that. He has class the next day.
Saxe and Jenny attempt to sleep together again. However, battling it out in court against each other has deflated their romance. After Saxe says he knows Lauren is Tariq’s girlfriend, Jenny comes to the conclusion that Tariq heard the tape. She threatens to have Saxe and Maclean disbarred if Lauren is harmed.
Milgram must save Lauren.
Tariq shows up to class and notices Lauren isn’t there. He leaves and Milgram gets a call from Jenny about the audio. She runs out of class to make it to Lauren’s dorm room. When she gets there, Tariq is already there. He tells her having Lauren on the stand places her life in danger. And he’s not the person that they need to keep Lauren safe from. So if Milgram cares about Lauren, she’ll go on the stand instead and lie to protect her.
Before Monet and Lorenzo leave the house together, Diana spots them. She says she’s going to Zeke’s game. Monet notices some of her rubbers are missing.
Maclean annihilates Milgram on the stand.
In court, Milgram takes the stand. Jenny questions her. She says Jabari told her the book was about Tariq. He knew for a day or two before Jabari’s murder. When Milgram read the transcript of the audio, she knew Tariq had a motive.
It’s Maclean’s turn to ask Milgram questions. He says Milgram has slept with multiple people who are tied to this case: Detective Whitman, Jabari, Zeke, and himself. So one can’t assume she’s telling the truth about Tariq. Plus, she violated her code of ethics by sleeping with a student and abusing her power. Milgram is advised to work on her resume. Diana looks on.
When GTG is in the process of trying to rob Mecca at his house, the power is cut off. Cane says that he did this to the gang once during a past attack. He and Mecca begin making their exit as Mecca’s henchmen return the gunfire.
Brayden, Dru, Effie, and Lil Guap are all in one car together.
Guap gets a phone call. He lost some of his men. But the “bag” was secured.
The plan is executed.
Brayden goes to the front desk in Mecca’s condo to complain about the power being out. The man at the desk leaves to investigate. Effie finds a security guard at the power grid and she screams that her grandmother needs help because she broke her hip. The security guard follows her. She steals her keys and locks her in a storage room.
Guap and Dru walk up the stairs. As they do, Guap hands Dru the cash. After Guap offers Dru a new gold grill, Dru pulls his gun out on him. This leads to a fistfight and Dru choking Guap the death.
Dru makes it to Mecca’s condo. He goes to the closet and locates a bag that contains the engagement ring. Cane runs back in to keep Dru from being caught by Mecca’s associate, Chef.
Tariq takes the ring and gives it to Maclean as payment.
Diana puts Monet on blast.
The Tejada family has a chaotic family dinner. All the dirty truths are exposed. Diana exposes Cane for replacing the drugs with sugar to become the family’s connect. Cane blasts Dru for not killing Everett. Zeke gets upset and questions why someone was going to kill his teammate. Monet blasts Diana for sleeping with Tariq. Diana slams Monet for being with Dante and she reveals he’s actually Zeke’s father. Monet is his mother. Diana pulls out his birth certificate and confirms Zeke is actually 23, not 10. So he wasn’t born in 2002. He was born in 1998. Zeke hates that he was lied to and he storms out of the house.
Lorenzo tells Monet to leave.
Mecca kills his associate Chef. He tells Cane that he was the mole.
Monet pays Milgram another visit.
Monet stops at Milgram’s while looking for Zeke. She tells Milgram she lost her family after being exposed for lies. Milgram can relate and says she lost everything because of her own lies. Monet then tells her that Zeke will never come back to her if he has Milgram to go to.
Tariq tells Effie about Lauren wearing a wire. He only lied to protect her. But he’s not sure what to think of everything now. Effie tells him he had the “wrong one.” Even though she didn’t want to become attached to Tariq, it has happened. They kiss.
Zeke goes to Milgram’s place. He’s surprised to see the door cracked open. When he walks in, he sees Milgram’s dead body hanging.
