Lauren doesn’t want to believe that Tariq is in the drug game.
The episode begins with a flashback revealing what really happened to Lauren. She woke up in a hospital after Effie knocked her unconscious. In the flashback, Effie can be seen pushing the car in a body of water while Lauren was unconscious and strapped in the passenger seat. The car was stolen and Lauren didn’t immediately remember how she ended up in her position. A man who was walking his dog called the police when he saw the car going under the water.
Jenny, the DA, has kept Lauren hidden as she builds her case against Tariq. Lauren doesn’t understand why the authorities won’t just arrest Effie. And she doesn’t believe that Effie and Brayden are working under Tariq.
Whitman confronts Monet.
Monet has enlisted Maclean to track down who killed Zeke. However, Maclean says that detectives are scratching their heads. But they agree that it’s likely that Zeke and Mecca were killed by the same person or crew. Regardless, Monet won’t leave it alone until she finds out the facts. Lorenzo looks on as the conversation concludes.
Cane tells Lorenzo that Drew is still messing around with Everett, so he’s too distracted to take over the family business. Lorenzo still isn’t convinced that Cane is the right son for the job. And he reminds Cane that he betrayed him while he was working with Mecca. So Lorenzo won’t even consider Cane as the next one up until he handles the Zeke situation for him. He tells Cane to find out who killed Zeke.
Whitman frightens Monet when he tells her that Zeke came to speak to him before his death. And there is traffic camera footage of Monet driving near Carrie’s apartment on the night of her death. He will pursue her until he knows the truth. Plus, he’s aware of her relationship with the deceased detective, Ramirez.
Brayden plotted behind Tariq’s back.
Tariq’s first day as an intern at the fund Brayden’s father runs is an eye-opener. He and Brayden realize their best shot at distributing the drugs for their new ruthless boss Noma is to take over the current supplier who happens to be an employee. They will have Cane do the deed.
Drew is beaten up pretty badly while out and about by a GTG member. He tells Drew he knows he killed Lil Guap. And he’ll kill him the next time he sees him. Lorenzo tells Cane that GTG is likely behind Zeke’s death. And he wants Cane to track down those responsible.
Brayden has a secret meeting with Rashad about his generous contribution to the campaign. He also thanks Rashad for replacing Tariq in the internship he originally gave him. Tate promises not to tell anyone about their little arrangement. Apparently, Brayden had Tate push Tariq out so he could bring him to his father’s business.
Drew steps up during Cane’s absence.
Blanca and Jenny catch up with Whitman. He tells them that Tariq isn’t the kingpin and it’s actually Monet. He explains that Monet had an intimate relationship with Ramirez. So he was working for the Tejada family. They need more info so they can build a RICO case.
There’s a change of plans after Drew is dumped by Everett for missing out on his signing event. Drew takes out the drug dealer and Weston fund employee after Cane is unreachable.
Lorenzo, Monet, and Cane snatch up the GTG member who beat up Drew. He denies having anything to do with Zeke’s death but Lorenzo planted Zeke’s ring on him. So Monet kills him.
Cane gains the upper hand.
Saxe is able to find out Monet’s phone number from Maclean’s phone so he can start digging around. After his chat with Jenny, he thinks there’s some truth to her theory about Tariq being involved.
After Cane and Lorenzo put the GTG member’s corpse into Cane’s car, he tells Lorenzo that he knows the gang member didn’t kill Zeke. And it was Lorenzo who killed him. He figured it all out once he recognized that Zeke’s ring had been taken from the house.
Lorenzo says it was an accident. He thought Zeke was Mecca because he was driving Mecca’s car. Cane tells Lorenzo he’s pathetic to have made such a messy mistake. This is hypocritical since Lorenzo said Cane wasn’t ready to take over the family business. So he owns Lorenzo now. And in order for him to stay quiet, Lorenzo will have to push Noma’s drugs.
