Being out of the game is starting to weigh on Tariq and Brayden.

Tariq and Brayden are beginning to feel the effects of no longer being in the game. Although Tariq was able to get back into school, he now has to work three campus jobs to pay off his student loan debt. Brayden’s family member secured him a real estate job but he hates it. Maclean is also processing bad news. His law license was suspended. Despite this, he tells Detective Carter to get lost when he offers to contact friends at the Bar to help if Maclean gives up his clients.

Back in class, Effie tries to make peace with Tariq. But he’s not interested because she betrayed him to work with Noma. Warning him about Cane coming after him wasn’t enough to smooth things between them.

Effie goes to Noma to ask for a raise since she’s currently the only person moving drugs on campus. Noma will only grant this if Effie can persuade the Russians to work with her. So she gets them to agree to meet with Noma after she promises to use her hacking skills to get the boss Vadim’s daughter on the Princeton swim team. Effie will change the child’s time in an upcoming swim meet.

Tariq meets Carter.

Detective Carter has his first run-in with Tariq at one of his campus jobs. Tariq plays it cool while Carter accuses him of murdering Agent Young. Carter also brings up Ghost and says Tariq is the same type of low-down individual he plans on putting behind bars. Despite the tension, Tariq gives Carter nothing before they end the conversation.

However, the news about Tasha being removed from witness protection soon does seemingly affect him.

Monet pops up at the meeting Effie set up for Noma and the Russians. Guns are drawn and she passes out since she’s still recovering from a gunshot wound. When Monet wakes up, Cane tells her it’s time for her to retire because she’s out of her league. She tells Diana and Dru she believes Cane was the one who shot her. The siblings tell her there’s no way Cane would do this.

Tariq calls Maclean about Carter. Maclean explains Carter’s wife was killed because she was at the wrong place at the wrong time. Since a drug dealer was involved, Carter has made it a personal vendetta to take down drug dealers.

Tasha and Tariq catch up.

Tariq locates Tasha at her retail job and asks her if she’s being removed from the witness protection program. She can only get in trouble one more time before that happens. And she agrees to stay away from New York because Tariq needs her to. Although she’s annoyed by her manager hitting on her, Tasha believes living a clean life is what is best for everyone. Despite Tasha insisting she can handle herself, Tariq assaults her manager in the parking lot.

Dru has another moment when he considers killing Monet by switching out her pain medication. However, Diana urges him not to and reminds him they must be better than her. Dru was triggered by Monet apologizing for what she did to Gordo and Lorenzo. Monet said she did what the family needed her to do.

Diana receives some startling news.

Cane takes Effie with him to convince the Russians to work with Noma after Monet caused problems. Effie gets Vadim on board by gifting him untraceable guns and being his point of contact moving forward.

Meanwhile, Monet asks Dru if she is such a horrible mother that there is no path forward. He credits her for asking because that means there’s been some growth.

Diana visits the doctor after she gets positive results from a pregnancy test. The doctor confirms the test results are accurate. Now she has some thinking to do.

Noma has Obi nearly kill Cane for making a weapon deal with the Russians without her approval. But she ends up impressed by his audacity. Obi is frustrated. Carter later handcuffs him for his connection to Tariq.

Brayden and Tariq are officially broke and their more modest jobs aren’t cutting it. So they agree to get back into the game. First, Tariq steals his car back from 2 Bit. He then meets up with Monet. She asks him who shot her and Tariq says he didn’t do it. Monet denies going after Tasha despite Kate saying it was her. Both are still puzzled about what’s going on.
