In the latest episode of “Raising Kanan,” Raq prepares for war, and Juke finds out who is behind Famous’ death. Here is the recap for “Dark Matter.”
Kanan comes clean to Jarita.
The episode begins with Marvin and Raq discussing Lou Lou’s death. Raq doesn’t know if Kanan shot Lou on purpose or by accident. She says she took a while to tell Marvin because she panicked. But she wants him to know that Lou wasn’t alone when he died. She held his hand and told him she loved him.
Marvin points out that Lou’s body was dropped off at a junkyard. So she intentionally did this to protect Kanan.
Meanwhile, Jarita is trying her best to tend to Kanan’s injuries from the beatdown Marvin gave him. Kanan admits that he is in competition with her boss Raq and originally planned to just use her for information. But he caught feelings for Jarita in the process, and his feelings for her are real.
Raq tells Marvin that Joaquin was recently taken out, so they have to find a new drug connect.
Kanan reluctantly tells Jarita everything about his drug business, including the fact that Raq also happens to be his mother.
Jukebox is fed up.
Detective Garcia lies about being close to Famous’ mother to get more information about his death and is told that Baptiste was involved in that case, and he didn’t retire by choice.
Jukebox confronts Kanan about killing Lou. He says it was an accident, but it’s all on Raq because he was only there because they were beefing. Jukebox doesn’t want to hear his excuses and points out that he always blames Raq for his actions. And she now realizes that he was “never about ****.”
Famous’ mother stops by to give Raq some of Kanan’s clothes he left at the house. She’s on her way to the airport. After Raq invites her in, they talk about Famous and Lou. Their deaths have been difficult to process.
Garcia attends the retirement party for Captain Baptiste. He asks him what really happened to Famous. When Baptiste refuses to entertain Garcia, Garcia tells him that he knows he didn’t retire because he wanted to. Baptiste snaps and warns Garcia not to overstep again.
Kanan refuses to tell Breeze who gave him his injuries and takes the blame for what happened, although he doesn’t give the details. Breeze respects that Kanan fears no one and gifts him a new car. After Kanan says Raq tried to do the same and nothing in life is free, Breeze tells him that he expects nothing in return. He did this because they are brothers, and that means everything to him.
Garcia gets answers for Jukebox.
Marvin visits Lou’s gravesite. He tells him this is the first time in his life he doesn’t know what to do and he just wants to feel something again. Raq goes to see Lou Lou’s former psychiatrist. She wants to know what he said about her.
Lou’s psychiatrist tells her that what was said must remain confidential. But what matters is what Raq thinks about herself.
Baptiste visits Garcia after he has a change of heart. He tells him that it was Snaps and Pop who killed Famous. He had no idea they were going to do it when they came to him for more information about Raq. But they were obsessed with Raq. As far as he knows, Garcia is the only clean cop left.
Stefano and Breeze have a sit-down with Hafiz and talk him into ending his business relationship with Raq and working with them. After he says Pino will be furious, Stefano says he will handle Pino very soon.
While at home, Baptiste dresses up in his uniform one last time to sit down in his office and take his own life.
Raq is ready for war.
Marvin introduces Jukebox and Amber at the park. He figures they needed to meet just in case something were to happen to him.
Amber tells him the police are still asking her about what happened to her abusive foster parents and neighbors said they saw a black man leave the house. So Marvin asks Juke to have Garcia look into it.
Raq learns that her deal with Hafiz is done and figures out he has now linked up with Stefano. She warns him that she will hit back at him and Stefano hard.
Garcia returns Jukebox’s money and tells her he can’t be a dirty cop anymore because it’s not really who he is. But he does tell her that Snaps and Pop were responsible for Famous’ death. He will do one last favor for Juke and look into Marvin’s situation.
Jerita tries to set up Flossie by quitting her job, but Flossie is too quick for Kanan and points her gun to his head. He admits that he is Raq’s son and they have beef. So Flossie was going to be a casualty of their war.
The episode ends with Raq taking out Hafiz’s right-hand man with Marvin shaking his head in frustration, realizing they are now at war.
