When team reps ask potential players questions, they are normally related to aspects of the sport that they are playing. Some questions can revolve around the player’s family as well. But one question that was asked to Dallas Cowboys’ Dez Bryant was totally inappropriate.
Prior to the NFL draft, Bryant met with Miami Dolphins’ general manager Jeff Ireland. During the conversation, Ireland questioned Bryant about his mother being a prostitute. Bryant was highly offended by the question. Here is what he told Yahoo! Sports:
“No, my mom is not a prostitute,” “I got mad — really mad — but I didn’t show it. I got a lot of questions like that: Does she still do drugs? I sat and answered all of them.”
Granted, Dez Bryant’s mother was said to have been involved in drugs and served jail time for selling it. But selling drugs and prostituting your body for money are two totally different things. Ireland’s question was extremely out of line and inexcusable. Even if he wanted to know more about Bryant’s mother, he could have gone about it in a different manner. I applaud Dez Bryant for how he reacted. Most people probably didn’t expect him to remain calm and collected. Families are a sensitive subject so people really should be mindful of what questions they ask.
