Rapper Lupe Fiasco is known for being outspoken and taking to the stage and his music to speak his mind on current events and the issues that plague the black community. Most recently, Lupe was escorted off the stage when he spoke out against President Obama for what he feels like is a lack of involvement in putting an end to the overwhelmingly large numbers of teen murders taking place in Chicago. Not one to be silenced, the rapper is still very much ranting on stage in between performances about issues that he’s not happy about regarding Hip Hop and the current state of the music industry.

During one of his performances the other night, Lupe slammed the radio stations and blamed Hip Hop for all the violence that is taking place in Chicago. The rapper suggested that it is the responsibility of  all the DJs to stop supporting violent music and playing it on the air to such impressionable young people.

He says:

“It kills me.

“Let me get this sh*t up off of my chest. It kills me how mothaf*ckers be talking all that, ‘Man the streets are so f*cked up. Why these young dudes out here shooting each other? Why these girls out running around reckless? All this crazy sh*t.’ They’ll be the same mothaf*ckers that’ll go on the radio station and play your mothaf*ckin’ song.”

Lupe then began to place some of the blame on fans who support violent music:

“Mothaf*ckers sit around in their car like, ‘Ah, man. Sh*t is f*cked up.’ Yeah, and then they turn up the same sh*t that a mothaf*cker doing in the streets with no problem riding around to it. That sh*t just irks me.

“We do it ourselves in the smallest ways, in the smallest hypocritical ways.”

The rapper also told the audience that he just needs to be able to get his feelings off his chest because what he says is sincere:

“When I say stuff like that, when you hear me rant, I mean it from the bottom of my heart. If you don’t like it, don’t pay me to do sh*t then.”

Check out the rant. Do you agree with Lupe? Post your thoughts below.

  1. He’s right. But I don’t know if the DJs have a choice considering that most of the music made is negative.

  2. He’s so emotional and it really turns me off. It’s nothing wrong with caring and making conscious music, but he acts like a female.

  3. Love me so Lupe but he’s been rubbing me the wrong way since the Obama rant. He means well, but he’s still a jacka-s.

  4. You know I’ll take Lupe’s rants over Kanye’s any day! At least Lupe’s rants have real meaning and aren’t self centered like Kanye’s are.
