Tia and Tamera Mowry are the exception when it comes to child stars. The twin sisters have managed to create long-lasting careers in Hollywood without getting into trouble or addicted to hard drugs, and they still remain positive public figures today in an era in which celebrities have absolutely no privacy thanks to the social networks and new media. And if that’s not enough, they have even managed to make reality television positive (which is overwhelmingly negative these days for the sake of high ratings), and they have not resorted to on-screen antics such as fist fights and name calling with one another to keep the interest of viewers. And in their recent interview with Essence Magazine, they claim they are well-behaved on the show because they wanted to stay true to themselves.
The twin beauties cover the April issue of Essence Magazine and open up about why it was important for them to be real while taking a chance at reality television. Here’s the statement released by the publication about the upcoming issue:
Life is sweet for twins for Tia & Tamera Mowry. As successful, married new moms, the reality TV stars are adding a new hyphenate to their resumes: entrepreneur. The two recently launched a product line for mothers and babies called Mama Need. ESSENCE gets the scoop on how they do it all, with a smile.
On being real, Tamera says:
“We didn’t want to do a reality show if we couldn’t be real—if I couldn’t be myself. There is no ‘evil twin’ syndrome, though we do have evil moments…”

Fabulous.
I love these two. They are so classy and beautiful. They represent women of color very well. I’ll be picking this issue up.

Yes! I’m glad to see Essence is finally stepping outside the box to find people for the cover. Y’all know they had the same 5 people on the cover 12 months out the year for like the last 10 years. LOL.
Ha! I was just thinking the same thing. Essence is trying to step it up. It’s about damn time.
Girl they have Bey on the cover every other month. LOL.
