During tonight’s “Rising Kanan’s” session premiere. A very vengeful Unique recovers from his injuries. He’s influenced to believe Raq had something to do with the assault. Meanwhile, Raq makes a tough decision and her mom ends up in the hospital.
Here’s the recap for, “Gangsta’s Don’t Die.”
Unique is brutally attacked by Ronnie.
The episode picks up three months earlier. Unique actually survived Ronnie’s bludgeoning. He barely makes it to a payphone but is able to call for help.
Marvin receives a page from a mysterious number. When he calls back, the person insists they meet immediately.
One of Unique’s men dropped him off at a veterinarian’s spot to help him. But the veterinarian can only do so much. So they are encouraged to take Unique to the hospital. If not, Unique could have severe anger issues. He’d be a completely different person. Unique has still not been taken to the hospital. He talks to himself about loving Raq. In the next scene, Raq can be seen puking into a toilet.
Stefano contacted Marvin. A made man is publicly cheating on his daughter Paulette. The rules forbid Stefano from doing it himself, so Marvin is being hired to handle Stefano’s son-in-law. Raq will be kept in the dark about this.
Raq takes a pregnancy test. She clenches her belly once she reads the results.
Raq terminates her pregnancy.
Kanan is told he will fail if he doesn’t turn in the paper about his grandparents. Failing a class will violate the terms he made with the social worker. He tries to talk to **** about his grandparents, but ***** says this isn’t safe to do. No one needs to know Def Con isn’t Kanon’s father. And his real father is a cop. While he wants a relationship with Kanan, they have to be discrete.
He goes to Raq’s mother to get background information on his grandfather. His grandfather’s father worked on the railroad and his mother did laundry for white people.
A doctor confirms Raq’s pregnancy. She wants an abortion. Raq tells the doctor the father is dead.
She later tells a nurse this isn’t her first abortion. Her first one was off the record when she was very young.
Unique’s security guy Early drives him everywhere except for the hospital. He struggles to maintain consciousness.
Jukebox drives Raq back home. Raq confirms Unique was the baby’s father. Jukebox asks Raq if she loved Unique. Raq says she could have.
Early convinces Unique to use rumors of his death as a super power. This “invisibility” will allow him to see how fast someone moves to replace him. That person likely had had in his death. In Early’s opinion, Ronnie is too small to have worked alone.
Marvin slams Kanan’s grandfather Elijah. He had to grow up fast because Kanan’s grandfather gave up on life. Marvin was forced to take care of Raq and Lou Lou. He does have good memories, like when Kanan’s grandfather was a prizefighter. Seeing him be victorious gave Marvin high self-esteem, and Marvin loved him more than anyone else. That is why he can never forgive Kanon’s grandfather.
Unique finds Ronnie’s body.
Lou Lou tells Kanan positive things about his grandfather. He was a great horn player who hustled to make money. He also grew to understand why he did what he did, telling Kanan that life is hard.
Early tells Unique about how Raq has taken over all his old spots. Unique believes this is proof Raq plotted with Ronnie to take him out.
Stefano thanks Marvin for scaring his son-in-law straight. He hopes he will stop beating on his daughter now.
Later, Unique is outside in a car when he spots Ronnie walking out with Juliana. Jukebox talks to her mentor, who is impressed with her group’s recent performance. Lou Lou’s ex stops by the bar as he cleans up. He’s disinterested in her advances.
Kanan visits his grandmother in the hospital, she downplays her health scare but eventually confirms she passed out because she has kidney cancer. He’s the only one who knows and she wants to keep it that way.
Unique catches Lou drunk, but he’s led into the bar by his boss before he could shoot.
Lastly, Unique catches Rqq and others walking out of a warehouse where Ronnie was killed. The episode ends with Unique seeing Ronnie’s body and pointing a gun at this party.
