ASAP Rocky Isn’t a Fan of ‘Kimye’ & Claps Back at His Fashion Critics

ASAP Rocky is enjoying his time as one of the hottest rappers of the moment, and his latest album Long.Live. ASAP  is doing well on the charts and has had a pretty solid run so far. Although he didn’t rank as high as he wanted to on MTV’s Hottest MCs list, it’s clear that he has no plans of going anywhere any time soon, even if the shelf life of a rapper isn’t very long in today’s music industry. Regardless, he definitely has the arrogance that seems to help rappers navigate in a competitive industry, and with that confidence, comes the ability to speak his mind and never hold back from his opinions.

When it comes to fashion, ASAP Rocky has a lot of critics. When he made an appearance on 106 & Park wearing what appeared to look like a skirt, it wasn’t long before people started to question his sexuality and some people don’t see his style as daring, but more so clownish and attention seeking. In a recent interview with i-D Magazine, he claims that although people give him a lot of flak for his style, he thinks he’s a trendsetter:

“The thing is, it happens every time. I wear something dope, people are like, ‘F*ck that guy’ and then six months, a year later, you see them wearing it … It’s cool though, I like to inspire people.”

Speaking of rappers wearing skirts, another rapper that likes to wear skirts on stage (Kanye West) came up in the interview, and that’s when ASAP Rocky expressed his dislike for the “Kimye” nickname the couple has had in the media since they went public with their romance last April.

ASAP Rocky says:

“I don’t want to be a part of that. I would prefer to be me and my girl, she does what she does. I don’t want to be the ‘couple’ thing. When they make the names up, that would make me sick. Kimye is the worst sh*t I’ve ever heard. Who thought of that dumb sh*t anyway? TMZ? Jayoncé? That is ridiculous.”
