Rick Ross’ controversial lyrics in Rocko’s “U.O.E.N.O.” have caused him quite the trouble. Not only was the rapper protested against for rapping about what sounded a lot like date raping an unsuspecting woman, but his verse on the song ended up getting replaced and Reebok decided to end its partnership with him as well. Rick Ross originally said he felt his lyrics were being misinterpreted, but his first apology that he made on his Twitter account just wasn’t enough to calm down the backlash. After Reebok dropped the deal it had with the frontman of Maybach Music Group, he finally issued a public statement and apology in which he took responsibility for the carelessness of his lyrics. While some rappers have expressed that they too felt Rick Ross was being irresponsible, his own artist Meek Mill says he’s on Rick Ross’ side and even took to his own Twitter account to clown the shoe company. Now it appears Drake is now sharing his thoughts on the controversy as well as he talked openly about it and late rapper Tupac in his recent interview with East Village Radio. Drake says:
“That situation the other day with the Rocko song was a big wake-up call for all of us. Like, rap is important. The world is listening, this is a wake-up call. If you’re going to say something that’s going to put you at risk, make sure it’s a message worth fighting for. I know Rick Ross very well, by all means I don’t mean to speak on another man’s situation, but it just, for me, it clicked. … Watching Pac, he felt like that message was worth fighting for. And in this day and age, he would have lost corporate sponsorship and he would have lost money but at the end of the day, that message was important for him. It’s just a wake-up call, man, and just realizing more to it.”
Drake is right but the thing with Rick Ross is he ain’t no damn Tupac. He has no substance and faked his whole entire image to sell records. The lyrics were offensive and he was pretty stupid to rap what he did.
Thank you. I agree completely.
Welp, I’m pretty sure the message wasn’t worth fighting over which further proves how stupid Rick Ross is.
Well at least Drake learned something from it all. You can’t say what you want and expect to keep getting endorsements. It’s just how it is. Especially when what you said is f-cked up. LOL.
In other words, Drake has more common sense than Rick Ross. Knew that much already!
LOL basically. Love me some Drake.
I shiver every time one of these young rappers brings up Tupac’s name. It bothers me because most of them never leaned who he REALLY WAS. He was just so much more than the occasional angry rap lyrics and rap beefs. He was out here in the black community and loved black people. Unlike most of them…
#COSIGN!
THANK YOU.
Drake please leave Tupac’s name out of your mouth. Thanks.
Huh? How did Tupac get in this? Drake please sit down. LOL.
Wise words Drake.
There will NEVER be another Tupac..these rappers today could’nt even tye his shoe laces!! Tupac had his share of controversy as well but he was MUCH deeper & intelligent than these cats! He LOVED his black people & black women..unlike most of these punks on the radio today! He rhymned about a lot of social issues & historical things..stuff that would make you think. I’m sure his mom being a former Black Panther influenced him in that way! He was far from being perfect..heck, NO ONE is, but his music was FAR more worth listening to than these clowns today! I’m patiently waiting for Lil Wayne’s ignorant self to take a blow like Mr Ross!
Hopefully all the other rappers learned something from this situation. Hope Drake drills this in his leader’s head!
