Alicia Keys‘ ‘Girl on Fire‘ lawsuit reaches settlement? Alicia Keys is currently touring with R&B crooner Miguel and one would probably guess that her hit single ‘Girl on Fire’ is included in the line up of songs that she will be performing for her fans during her shows. ‘Girl on Fire’ was the first single the singer released from her album titled Girl on Fire. Shortly after its release, the song climbed that charts and remained on top of them for weeks at a time. Alicia even went to the extent of putting out remixed versions of the song and doing her own live remixes as she did during the 2013 inaugural ball that took place for President Barack Obama’s second inauguration. And it’s clear that ‘Girl on Fire’ has become one of Alicia’s favorite songs to perform as she has done so at many major events. As the song continues to get much airplay, Songwriter Earl Shuman put a slight damper on the song’s success when he hit Alicia Keys with a lawsuit over it. In the lawsuit, Earl Shuman claimed that Alicia allegedly used copyrighted material from the 1962 composition ‘Lonely Boy’ that he co-wrote.
Reports now reveal that a settlement has been reached in the lawsuit that was filed in a California federal court, a lawsuit that didn’t go into much detail as to what Alicia supposedly copyrighted but suggested that Alicia quoted the intonation of ‘Lonely Boy’ in her song when she sang the words “lonely girl”. Regardless, the parties have announced in a court filing that they have indeed reached a settlement yet the terms of the settlement have not been revealed at this time.
