Fantasia Talks Foreclosure, Almost Death & Not Making Music for Money

R&B singer Fantasia Barrino might have a beautiful voice, but her time in the spotlight hasn’t been anything but ugly for the last few years. Although the singer’s claim to fame was winning American Idol in 2004, her personal life began to make headlines more so than her music. After getting involved in a romantic relationship with a married man and then getting pregnant with his child, Fantasia became a target to the “home wrecker” labels, and if that wasn’t enough she had to battle her then lover’s wife in the courts of North Carolina. Although Fantasia won legally and has since made peace with the situation, she still hasn’t managed to get away from the criticism surrounding the relationship. After almost taking her own life a few years ago, Fantasia now says she’s much stronger thanks to her trials, and she’s no longer going to allow the opinions of others to determine how she feels about herself. In a recent interview with Yahoo’s omg! Insider, the singer opens up about dealing with foreclosure, wanting to take her own life, and why she’s no longer making music to make money or secure status in the music industry. Fantasia says:

“I am the woman I am today, smarter and wiser and now I can share it with somebody else and say, ‘Hey listen, no matter what you go through, there’s always that point where you’ll win again.’

“But I almost lost my life getting all wrapped up in all of this stuff. And my life is more important than any of this stuff right here. It’s not about a dollar to me, it’s not about a position to me. I just want to bless people with my music and my story. Other than that, they can have it. It’s for the birds.”
