Female rapper Eve is working on her comeback to Hip Hop, and after releasing a very impressive track entitled “Eve,” the former first lady to Ruff Ryders has made it clear that she is still lyrically a force to be reckoned with. However, as a female rapper who has had lots of success in the music business, she had to overcome the stigmas associated with being a woman in a male dominated industry. Similar to Nicki Minaj proving herself to Young Money by reportedly not sleeping her way to the top, Eve also says in order for her to get respect from her Ruff Ryders brothers, she had to prove to them that she wasn’t a “groupie” and that she can stand on her own two feet lyrically. She tells Vibe Vixen:

“If anything, I probably overcompensated as a woman. With dudes, you have to snatch the respect. You earn it, gain it, snatch it. I also was adopted compared to everyone else. They’re from Harlem and Yonkers and here’s this girl from Philly, so I had to prove that I could write like them or better than them. I had to prove that I wasn’t a groupie. I did whatever I could to gain that respect and let them know I didn’t need them to carry me.”

In related news, Eve also made a recent appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. She performed her smash hit “Let Me Blow Your Mind” and “Make It Out This Town.” Check out the performances below:

  1. I love me some EVE. I understand exactly what she is saying. As a woman men will try you a test you to see how far they can go with you. But it is up to a strong woman to gain and prove she deserves that respect. Kudos to Eve because she definitely earned her respect.

  2. Of course. Eve is not a stupid woman. Real women know respect is EVERYTHING. Love her to pieces.

    1. This is so true! Took me a while to understand that but man, when you know better you do better.

  3. Good to know! I’m glad Nicki and Eve are talking about respecting themselves and being independent female rappers! That’s something our young girls can really learn from.

  4. I’m so happy Eve is back. The game really needs her. She’s a true representation for real women who respect themselves.

  5. I like that new song she performed. Looks like she’s coming back hard. Her new music sounds good so far.

  6. Yass!!! Real women are coming back to Hip Hop and dump rappers are losing their endorsements! It’s a good time in Hip Hop.
