Nicki Minaj might be one of the biggest rap stars of today’s music industry, but despite all of the Young Money front woman’s success, on numerous occasions those that have had to work with Nicki have claimed she’s extremely hard to work with. Nicki has made it clear post “American Idol” she wants to be taken more seriously as a music artist, so she fired her stylist and wig maker promptly to change up her image. Interestingly enough, it appears she’s also serious about her photo shoots so much so it can be disastrous for magazines. Paper Magazine’s Editorial Director Mickey Boardman recently chatted with BuzzFeed about the disastrous shoot he had with her, and claims the shoot was “not fun” in the least bit. He says:

“Nicki Minaj was not fun. The Nicki thing turned out fine in the end, but it was two weeks of hideous torture and [her] walking off shoots. We had hired a photographer who’d shot her before. She liked the pictures, so we got him to shoot her again for the cover a year or two later. The first day of the shoot, she was locked in a room with her hair and makeup team, people whom she picked — she made them put [all her hair/makeup] on, then take it off. She would not let anyone from our team, stylists or photographers, talk to her. She came out and it was a mess. The photographer took some shots and she said, ‘Let me see.’ He [showed her] five frames and she walked off — it was insanity. I had to sign up for AOL Instant Messenger so I could talk to her later, and she hung up on me on AIM. It was a super headache. We were going to do another shoot and then she had to cancel the day before. In the end everything was set up, but she wouldn’t use the stylist that we had. [Eventually] we got it, and the pictures looked great.”

  1. Nicki needs to work on being more professional. She’s developing a bad reputation behind the scenes and it can hurt her clownish a-s in the end.

  2. Surprisingly, I have to agree with Barbee on this one. If he still works for the magazine, he probably shouldn’t go around doing interviews on who was doing what during the photo shoots.

  3. I think Nicki is very understood. I watched her documentary on E and she is a perfectionist. She’s very hard on herself and tries on like 5 different outfits before she does anything. She’s not rude, just too hard on herself.
