Kerry Washington talks Scandal Emmy nomination and new marriage in recent interview. The good news continues to pour in for Actress Kerry Washington. In addition to her show “Scandal” being a huge hit among viewers, her role in the ABC drama has earned her an Emmy nomination. Not only has Kerry made history as “Olivia Pope,” her Emmy nod makes her the first African American woman to achieve this type of recognition since legendary actress Cicely Tyson did back in 1995. Kerry’s acting career is doing quite well and so is her love life as the actress secretly got hitched to NFL player Nnamdi Asomugha, who seems like a great catch from what we have gathered so far. In a recent interview with PEOPLE, Kerry tells the publication she is by far “the luckiest broad in showbiz” and is very humbled by her Emmy nomination:

“I’m the luckiest broad in showbiz,” Washington, 36, who plays crisis manager Olivia Pope in ABC’s political thriller, tells PEOPLE. “I just feel really blessed and humbled and grateful for this nomination.”

Kerry says she was in the airport when she got the news of her Emmy nomination and says though she couldn’t celebrate right then and there, she will definitely do so later on with her “Scandal” crew:

“I had my dog with me and I was trying to get water for the plane in that hurried, crazy airport mode. I’m going to celebrate with my Scandal family after we have our table read today.”

Kerry was asked about how she felt about being a new bride. And she responds by saying she is still going to remain very private when it comes to her personal life, but does say she is ecstatic about all the great things that have happened in her personal and professional life:

“I don’t talk about my personal life in the press, but I will say I’m really happy,” she says. “I’m blessed in all areas of my life.”

The Emmy ceremony is set for Sept. 22 in Los Angeles and when asked who she would be bringing along as her date, Kerry says:

“I have not decided who will be my date,” she says with a laugh. “That was my parents’ question this morning! We’ll see.”

  1. Another reason why I love Kerry I respect celebrities who value their relationship and take it seriously. I hope other celebrities take notes.

  2. I think a lot of grown folks need to take a page put of Kerry’s book. People put all of their business on social media and can’t understand why they have so much drama. Really? LOL.

    1. Nnamdi has a game in San Francisco that day, (that’s if he makes the squad) so it will probably be her parents.
