K. Michelle has come a long way and the former “Love and Hip Hop Atlanta” star is thankful for every bit of her journey. After once being allegedly black balled from the music industry after her former relationship with Memphitz went sour, the first season of “Love and Hip Hop Atlanta” wrapped up and K. Michelle inked a record deal with Warner Bros.. Her first studio album, “Rebellious Soul” dropped on Monday and not only do her first week sales projections top those of established R&B artists Kelly Rowland and Ciara, but it’s clear with the success of her current single “V.S.O.P.” that K. Michelle’s future looks bright. And if the album’s increasing success isn’t good enough news, the singer was also recently honored by her hometown of Memphis.
According to reports and K. Michelle’s Instagram account, she received the Mayor’s Ambassador Award, and she was honored for achieving so much success and representing her hometown with pride while doing so. K. Michelle was touched to receive the honor and tells the press:
“This is an honor. I absolutely love my city. “I want to thank everyone. It’s been a struggle and a fight, but I’m just getting started in this business. You have to fight if you want to be a musician. If this is what you want to do, you can never give up on it.”
K. Michelle even wrote a heartfelt message about receiving the award on her Instagram account:
Today I was honored by the Mayor and the city of Memphis. I received the ambassadors award for Music and my community service efforts. I know I’m not perfect but it really feels good to have someone focus on all the positive things I’ve been trying to do. God is good.
Congrats to K. Michelle.
