Shaunie O’Neal Says Black Women Being Childish is Why BBW Lasted Five Seasons?

Season 5 of “Basketball Wives” has finally arrived and the cast members on the show have been making their press rounds to promote the new season to entice viewers to tune in. The season opener of BBW primarily focused on Evelyn Lozada’s past marriage to Chad Johnson and how the incident has affected her. As the first episode of season 5 of “Basketball Wives” did live up to what Shaunie O’Neal promised viewers they would see, the new season still has its doses of drama in it. And a portion of it involves Shaunie as many thought for a moment that she and cast mate Tami Roman came to blows during a scene in a clip from the supertrailer. Shaunie O’Neal’s beef with Tami didn’t turn violent though according to Shaunie. However, things have gotten physical on the show before as reality TV show watchers are refusing to let the BBW cast members live down the violent events that went down from past seasons. And the fact that people constantly bash “Basketball Wives” yet tune in to “Love & Hip Hop” shows faithfully is something that doesn’t sit well with Shaunie.

Shaunie told Sister 2 Sister:

“Those people that say that, I really don’t say anything to them to be honest. That’s their opinion. If you’re going to tell me you’re not going to watch “Basketball Wives,” but you tune into some of the other shows on the same network, it’s a little contradictory to me. If I were to try to convince somebody to watch, I would say that this season, there is growth. There is a whole lot of growth. There is some change in some people. Don’t look to see a bunch of Mother Theresas ‘cause that’s not happening, but you do see growth. I am very proud of season 5 of “Basketball Wives.” It’s growth and it is some change there. We’re not perfect, but we’re better.”

While she has a problem with people criticizing the “Basketball Wives” cast over their behavior on the show, Shaunie seems to be okay with it as long as the show keeps coming back for more seasons.

One of Shaunie’s followers on Twitter asked her what the actual purpose of “Basketball Wives” was as they told the reality TV star the show appeared to be nothing but a display of old black women acting a fool. Shaunie must not be too concerned about the way the cast behaves on the show as she responded to the follower by saying the way they act on “Basketball Wives” must be working as the show has made it to a fifth season:

  1. Well we will see what happens to this show after the fifth season. I haven’t been watching it and neither has any of my friends. #shrugs

  2. I used to love Shaunie and I was so happy for her when I heard she got her show on VH1. Now she’s just a joke to me.

  3. Sadly, she told the truth. I think season four was just too much and now it’s just turned people off so much.

  4. I think one day Shaunie will release she’s better than this. And when it does, she’ll understand why this show was a huge mistake. Bless her heart.

  5. It’s the truth. Sad but true. I think society as a whole will drastically increase when reality television loses it’s popularity.

  6. So she’s proud to paint this picture of black women in the media? Between Shaunie, Kevin Hart, and Lee Daniels we are losing right now smh. If you throw Rihanna & Kelly Rowland (sorry) in there then black women look like loud, ghetto, half-dressed, poor credit, or welfare-abusing women that have to sell sex or violence to stay relevant. This is truly sad…
