“The Butler“ box office numbers land film in number one spot for second weekend in a row? The historical drama highlighting the life of an African American male and the life-changing things he got to experience during his time as a butler has been receiving rave reviews from movie goers who have gotten a chance to see the film starring Oprah Winfrey, Cuba Gooding Jr., Terrence Howard and Forest Whitaker as Cecil Gaines. Many people have had very positive things to say about Lee Daniels’ latest movie and there have even been talks of some Oscar nominations on the way for those who starred in the movie and who were behind the production of it. However, the film has been met with some criticism and backlash.
A young woman in Silver Spring, Maryland took to her Twitter account to slam a Regal Cinemas theater for allegedly being racist towards her and the other African American audience members who purchased tickets to see the movie. The movie theaters showing the film aren’t the only ones catching heat for their actions as the film’s director Lee Daniels has managed to infuriate some people with the latest comments he made in reference to black women and welfare during an interview he did with Larry King.
Despite Lee Daniels ruffling some feathers with his recent comments, “The Butler” continues to draw in big crowds in its second weekend in theaters. And with the numbers the movie has pulled in so far this weekend, “The Butler” remains at the top of the box office.
“The Butler” made its way to theaters last Friday and managed to perform extremely well at the box office in its opening weekend, pulling in over $24.3 million and securing the number one spot. And according to a report from Deadline, “The Butler” has landed in the number one spot at the box office again for the second weekend in a row earning $4.7 million on Friday, $15.6 million for the weekend and $50.9 million overall.
Congrats to the cast and production team of “The Butler.”
Not watching. Congrats to Oprah though. I love her.
No competition. Nothing else is out really.
Figured.
