As we reported recently, Disney actress Zendaya Coleman has officially pulled out of starring in the upcoming Lifetime Aaliyah biopic, and it’s been reported that she left the project because Aaliyah’s family wasn’t supportive of the movie and wouldn’t sign over rights to use the singer’s music.

But now the network confirms that the entire project has now been put on hold.

The New York Post reports:

Disney star Zendaya Coleman isn’t “one in a million” anymore.

Coleman’s controversial casting in a Lifetime biopic about Aaliyah, the Grammy-nominated R&B singer whose life was tragically cut short when her plane crashed over the Bahamas in 2001, is over.

“We are sad Zendaya will no longer portray Aaliyah. Production is currently on hold,” Lifetime tweeted Sunday.

  1. They just need to can the whole thing. Nobody is here for it and they can’t even use the music. :-/

  2. I honestly think people need to let Aaliyah rest in peace. Her family really doesn’t want a movie unless it’s done their way. If that can’t happen, then don’t do it.

  3. I knew this was coming when Zendaya walked away. It doesn’t matter who they pick to replace her, the family is not feeling it. So why move forward?

  4. I really think they just need to hang it up. But Lifetime is banking on cranking out all these biopics on black stars and they only care about the bottom line. The goal is more money and more ratings. Smh.

  5. Oh goodness I wish they would just scrap the whole thing completely. The family is never going to cosign a TV movie.
