While the tabloids continue to speculate on Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon’s marriage, it appears the singer is ending a relationship in an attempt to save her music career.

According to reports, Mariah has decided to fire Jermaine Dupri as her manager since her last album struggled with sales.

Billboard writes:

Mariah Carey has parted ways with longtime musical collaborator Jermaine Dupri as her manager, and has been working closely with Kevin Liles, who was president of Def Jam during the singer’s stint at the label, Billboard has learned. Sources say “nothing official” has been inked with Liles’ firm KWL Enterprises, but the two have been working together since the June launch of Go N’Syde’s Carey-branded Butterfly interactive beverage line.

“I’m a very hands-on person when it comes to my work,” Dupri tells Billboard in a statement. “I put my all into every project. But when I’m not allowed to do what I do, then I know it’s time for me to move on. Mariah and I enjoy working together and will continue to make great music together in the future.” Reps for Liles, Carey and Carey’s label Def Jam declined comment.

  1. I love her but it wasn’t JD’s fault. The music wasn’t all that good on the last album. Sorry Mimi.

    1. The album is excellent. JD did not handle his duties as a manager. He didn’t promote her right and he hasn’t been a good manager/producer in a very long time. She’s in better hands now.

  2. I don’t know what’s going on with Mariah. It’s like every great artist just goes though a phase where they can’t really fit in what music is today. But she’s been here before and then she slayed with the Emancipation album. I won’t count her out just yet.

  3. Young people don’t want to listen to no damn Mariah. People don’t want no damn ballads either. Sad but true. If you ain’t Adele, they don’t want to hear it.

  4. Her time has been over. The only way she can be saved is if she changes to fit in. And I don’t want to see her do that man. I really don’t.

  5. Ok so you know what this means right. You flop more than once, you have to become ratchet and edgy. Mariah is about to be completely changed. Wait or it.

  6. Well the blame is all on Mariah she was the only fool still working for JD,look what he did to Janet Jackson smh. Then you factor in no promotion with terrible music she was destined to flop. Mariah is just trying to live on her name musically and that ain’t cutting it anymore her last good album was Emancipation of Mimi the albums after that was meh.

  7. 1stly Mariah needs to have several seats and have a piece of humble pie.Her live performances is crappy, her over the top diva attitude is annoying and nobody cares if she sold 100 million copies 20 years ago.She is not relatable and lots of artist do documentaries and write books so that their fans can relate to them but Mariah seems to stay on her high horse and look down on everyone and ppl aint here for that…
