Music legend Aretha Franklin has never had a problem giving her views on today’s state of the music industry, and she certainly never really passed on an opportunity to give her opinions on today’s divas either.

Interestingly enough, the legend didn’t really have many words when she was asked her opinion on Nicki Minaj.

Jezebel writes:

Aretha Franklin sat down with the Wall Street Journal to discuss JP Morgan’s plans to cut 3,000 more jobs this year her new album Aretha Franklin Sings the Great Diva Classics. The interviewer asked her about today’s top songstresses, and her responses, as always, were pretty phenomenal.

On Adele: “young singer, good singer”

On Alicia Keys: “young performer, good writer/producer”

On Taylor Swift: “great gowns, beautiful gowns”

On Nicki Minaj: “Nicki Minaj…..I’m gonna pass on that!”

  1. Nicki just needs to eat this one and not respond. Aretha shades everyone. And I mean everyone. Even other legends. LOL.

    1. Oh I caught it. She gave Taylor props for nothing but having nice gowns and made no mention of her voice or songs. And Aretha is an accomplished vocalist and pianist, yet she would only give Alicia props for being a young performer and good songwriter and producer, she made sure she didn’t mention her voice or piano playing abilities. Shade, shade, shade.

  2. Aretha Ham-hocks Franklin needs to sit her hungry a-s down somewhere and stop hating on young people. She had her time.

  3. That’s the thing about deciding to be controversial. A lot of legends won’t respect you for it. But Nicki will be fine. I don’t see her going off on Aretha like she did Mariah.

  4. Get up off of Aretha…she’s only voicing her opinion just like the rest of us. There are plenty of people who don’t really care for today music period, so what? You have to remember, times have changed since the 50’s and 60’s and that’s Aretha era…she’s “The Queen Of Soul” but she’s a human being first.
