Compton emcee Kendrick Lamar has just about everyone waiting on the release of his next studio album, and although it was rumored last year that the album would drop late 2015, he’s now expected to drop the album later this month.

While he hasn’t said much on what to expect this time around, if “The Blacker the Berry” is any indication, the new album should tackle serious issues like race relations and issues in the black community.

Kendrick revealed the album cover hours ago on his Instagram account:

The album is titled “To Pimp a Butterfly,” and Kendrick tells the Rolling Stone it’s a play on “How to Kill a Mockingbird”:

“Just putting the word ‘pimp’ next to ‘butterfly’… It’s a trip. That’s something that will be a phrase forever. It’ll be taught in college courses — I truly believe that.”

  1. If butterfly = black people, this is genius. I’m excited to hear what he’s been working on all this time.

  2. I’m still mad at his little raggedy a-s for those Mike Brown/Eric Garner comments, but I can’t deny he makes good music and he can actually rap. I’m ready to see if this midget can strike gold twice. His last album is a f-cking classic.

  3. I’m not feeling this album cover but I’m anxious to hear his new music but he has his work cut out for him with this album because Good Kid, M.A.A.D City was a classic.

  4. I like Kendrick and hope he has as much success or more with this album as his previous works. He brings topics that inspire conversation and thinking on a higher plane. A lot of people think this cover is stereotypical prematurely, but I’m sure his messages will prove otherwise.
