Chrisette Michele to Perform at Inauguration (UPDATE)

According to reports, Chrisette Michelle has agreed to rock the stage at the Inauguration.

And to be expected, she’s now a trending topic on Twitter.

The New York Daily News writes:

Singer Chrisette Michele will join the party ushering in Trump’s presidency, according to sources close to the festivities.

We’re told the deal was reached a week ago, but has been kept “a big secret” because Michele’s camp feared the seven days of criticism that would surely lead up the divisive President-elect’s big day. They became especially concerned when Jennifer Holliday, who’d committed to performing for PEOTUS last week, withdrew amidst heavy pressure on Monday, citing “a lapse of judgment.”

Our insiders say inauguration organizers first reached out to Michele’s team asking her to perform the song “Intentional” with singers Travis Greene, Jonathan McReynolds and Tye Tribbett — the same trio with whom she did that tune on BET’s “Celebration of Gospel” broadcast one year ago. We’re told that plan fell apart when at least two of those three singers declined the offer. But, according to our sources, Michele agreed to sing for the Prez so long as she could perform an R&B set.

She will join veteran country warblers Toby Keith, 55, and Lee Greenwood, 74, 81-year-old Motown singer Sam Moore (of “Sam and Dave” fame) and 90s pop-rockers 3 Doors Down in the nation’s capital for two days of activities, beginning Thursday. Bruce Springsteen cover band “The B Street Band” was slated to rock out at an inaugural party for Trump in New Jersey, but withdrew last week amid criticism from members of The Boss’ actual band.

UPDATE: Chrisette Michele took to Instagram earlier to defend her decision:

“My heart is broken for our country, for the hopes of our children, for the fights of those who came before us. I cry at the thought that Black History, American History might be in vain. This country has had great moments. God has shined His light upon us. Today, I hope that Great Moments begin in peaceful & progressive conversation. I am willing to be a bridge. I don’t mind “These Stones”, if they allow me to be a voice for the voiceless. I am here. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Our lives begin to end, the day we become silent about what matters,”. I am here, representing you, because this is what matters.” – Chrisette Michele #NoPoliticalGenius We Can’t Be Present If We’re Silent | LINK IN BIO

  1. Let’s cut her some slack….it’s either this or a reality show. she about to hit us with fake victim syndrome.

  2. Hope they worth it and they buy and keep buying your mediocre music. You’ve lost thousands of fans sell your soul to a rapist that demoralized the first black president for 8 years. They don’t like you, used as a negro prop.

  3. It’s sad as hell that black people like her have no kind of pride whatsoever. They really can be purchased like we’re still slaves. I just do not see any other minority doing this. Where’s the Mexican who signed up to perform? The Native American? Asian? Hell where are the gays signing up to perform. This is why we can’t get ahead.

  4. She sound like a fool. Wake up Chrisette!! We don’t need you to show up for us, we need you to stand up for and support your people and not perform. Hell, it shouldn’t have even crossed your mind to be honest.

  5. I hate when people try to seem so deep on the Gram but their actions offline are ignorant. She’s a simpleton.
