Elizabeth is still in shock about John’s death.
Hours after John was shot in the head on the court’s steps, Elizabeth is still there and in shock. She’s been broken.
Rosalee is planning to go on another route to drop off more slaves.
She plans with Harriet Tubman and Georgia, and confirms that she won’t be attending John’s funeral. She’s lacking confidence in herself and lacking confidence in finding the rest of her family now that her rescue mission for Noah was a failure. But Harriet assures her that she’s ready but to always trust her instincts.
Rosalee struggles on the route and gets the group lost, but she’s sees the marking on the tree Harriet told her to look for.
She arrives to the station, however, she realizes it’s been compromised by slave catcher Patty Cannon. Rosalee runs away before she can be shot.
Elizabeth painfully comes to terms with John’s death and wants revenge.
She admits to Rosalee that she joined the movement in the beginning to help her get over not being able to have any kids but now that John’s gone, she realizes that it would have really helped to have had a child to have some piece of him left.
Elizabeth goes to the boarding house Georgia runs.
She reveals to Georgia that she’s disappointed that Rosalee won’t be able to attend John’s funeral but tries to understand her absence is for a greater cause.
“Everybody grieves in their own way.” – Elizabeth to Georgia
Later, Elizabeth returns to the courthouse where John was murdered, and she has a gun on her. She’s waiting to see the man who shot John again so she can kill him. However, Georgia shows up and sits on the bench with her. Turns out the gun Elizabeth has was stolen from Georgia. She calmly talks her out of it and tells her she’s not leaving her alone. Elizabeth angrily abandons her plans.
Ernestine is given a task.
Earnestine’s boyfriend asks her to give poison to a woman he impregnated. She’s out of it, probably still high on the mysterious substance she’s been inhaling quite a bit since the premiere. She sees the ghost of Sam’s father, French.
The woman her boyfriend impregnated asks her for the poison that will give her an abortion, but when she asks Earnestine’s if she has kids, Earnestine tells her that her kids were the best thing in her life. The woman changes her mind and walks away without the poison.
Ernestine reminisces about the past with the ghost of French. He tells her that after his death, she became cold and focused on getting in the “big house.” He says her kids felt her coldness. And that’s why Rosalee ran away. She starts to feel guilt and he tells her that her kids are the worst thing that ever happened to her.
Later that night, her boyfriend comes to her with the woman he impregnated and he asks Ernestine where the poison is to kill the baby. She shows him and he shoves the poison down the woman’s throat, forcing the abortion.
Noah tries to escape and has a very surprising reunion.
Since Rosalee was able to successfully save him from his hanging, Noah is now being transported somewhere else. While in the cart, he begins to work earnestly to break out. He successfully causes the cart and horse to crash but is quickly caught. They take away the ring Noah has been working on for Rosalee, and he tells them he will get it back when he gets free.
He later breaks loose again, and pulls a gun out on the slave catchers. He asks for the master they are working for but he learns the master is actually is Cato.
Patty Cannon is on Rosalee’s tracks and Rosalee’s big secret is revealed.
The notorious slave catcher, Patty Cannon is following Rosalee’s tracks, and hopes to catch her since she’s been struggling to catch Harriet Tubman. A journalist is shadowing her and writing about her work.
She gets information on Rosalee from the woman who was working the compromised station earlier in the episode.
Rosalee and the runaway slaves are in the woods late at night and know that they are being followed.
She gets them to where they need to go but is later shot by Patty while standing on the river bank. She rips off bandages when she gets out the water and it is revealed that she is pregnant.
What are your thoughts on the episode?
Aww my baby is having a baby! I wonder how this will play out though. Hopefully Rosalee and the baby will be safe.
My heart is so heavy for Liz and Ernestine. Anyway, I guess it makes sense they wrote in the pregnancy since Jurnee really was pregnant at the time.
I think Ernestine is going to snap out of it soon and she’s going to be dangerous when she does. I can’t wait.
I knew she was pregnant. My heart dropped when she got shot.
How can she be pregnant though? With all the running around she does, it’s a huge risk.
This show is so good!
This explains why she goes so hard for Noah.
This show keeps me on the edge of my seat. And I guess all the ghosts Ernestine keeps seeing are really just her subconscious talking to her. I can’t wait for her to get it together and slay again.
