Nova has a new fling, Charley will need Davis.
The cold opening has Nova in her garden hanging clothes out to dry and wrapping a piece of fabric. Suddenly, an unknown white man walks out of her front door saying, “I had a good time last night. Maybe, we can get together again one of these days.’
Nova shrugs him off and very politely excuses him away from her home. “Have a good day, okay.”
Charley and Remy are at a bank presenting their estimates of revenue and profits from the newly acquired sugar cane mill. They need the loan from the bank to make the upgrades to the mill and make it operational.
Despite having two thirds of all the black farmers agreeing to send their cane to them, and an additional 32 waiting to sign up, Charley learns that she can’t secure loan financing without Davis’ signature.
Charley reluctantly tells the bankers, “We will make it happen.” Once the bankers leave the room, she tells Remy, “I guess I should be used to people thinking there’s no me without Davis.”
However, as a result of this blindsiding, Remy wants to keep their relationship professional. “Once it’s safe for you to be seen drinking with another man, then we can toast to that. But for now, I think its best if we just keep things professional.”
Aunt Vi is still running the restuarant, things are still going good for Ralph Angel and Darla.
Vi is still running the restaurant. She is training women from the local halfway house to become line cooks.
Ralph-Angel is on the farm with Blue and Darla. Ralph-Angel tells Blue he will give him land, calling it ‘Blue’s Corner.’ As Blue runs off onto the barren land, RA tells Darla that she hasn’t told his sisters about their Father’s revised will which specified that the entire farm now belongs to him.
“As Soon as I tell them, they’ll try to take it from me.” – Ralph Angel
Darla reassures him by saying, “You don’t know that.”
Overall, they both seem happy as a family.
Micah is still holding a grudge against Davis.
Micah and Keke hang out with Charley at a restaurant for Micah’s birthday. Keke gives Micah props for getting a really nice car from Davis. “I love me some Korean food but ain’t nothing better than that car we just pulled up in.”
Micah brushes off the admiration for the car. “That car is not just a car though. It’s my dad trying to apologize or feel better about himself.”
Charley wants Micah to keep his head up. “Don’t let your father’s issues spoil your special day, okay?”
Later, Vi hasn’t heard from Hollywood since he left for an extended stay on the oil rigs. She calls him when she gets home, but he doesn’t answer.
Nova hangs out with old friends, praising black girl magic.
Nova hangs out with her friends at a baby shower for one of them. She first greets her pregnant friend who is having the baby shower. Nova gives her two special gifts for the woman’s twins.
The woman tells Nova that her mom is really excited about having grandchildren:
“She is so excited about me finally giving her some grand babies, she went overboard. Nova points out their other friend and they all greet one another. They haven’t seen one another since their last reunion.”
They speak about being single and having children and black girl magic. The ladies ask their pregnant friend how it is being pregnant without a partner. She tells them that she is nervous but she’s happy it happened this way. Nova tells the group that they don’t need a man or society to tell them what to do and when to do it. She then invites the ladies to a fund-raiser.
Ralph-Angel comes up with a plan.
RA reveals his plan to Mr. Prosper to farm a crop of soybeans and Mr. Prosper is impressed. However, their tractor needs to get fixed soon to get the land prepared. Hollywood reached out to him to ask about Aunt Vi.
Ralph Angel tells Hollywood to call Vi and ask her himself.
Charley confronts Davis in the club.
Nova has Charley and Aunt Vi out in a club in celebration of Micah’s birthday. As they are out having a good time, Charley sees Davis out with another woman. Charley makes a beeline towards Davis and confronts him. She says, “You know, I don’t know what upsets me more — The fact that you’re with… this instead of your son on his birthday like you’re supposed to be, or that you’re with this in public. When we have worked so hard to control the press about our situation.”
Davis scoffs at Charley and tells her that Micah blew him off, choosing to hang out with Keke instead.
Aunt Vi suddenly comes over to Davis’ booth and confronts him about being out with another woman. This causes security to arrive and forcibly escort the ladies out of the club and ruining their night.
The family gets together for Juneteenth.
RA’s baby mother is in a Narcotics Anonymous meeting nearing the verge of her two your sobriety anniversary. She is nervous to share this moment with RA and Blue’s family, which is getting together for Micah’s birthday.
Back at Aunt Vi’s house, the rest of the family is getting together for a Juneteeth celebration. When RA and Blue arrive, all seem happy. However, Blue isn’t happy Darla isn’t there yet, and Charley isn’t happy that RA didn’t tell her about growing soybeans and getting the old tractor fixed.
Micah has a run-in with the police.
As Micah is on his way to Aunt Vi’s house for the dinner, he gets pulled over by local authorities in his car and is really nervous. The officer that pulled Micah over is an older white gentleman. He pulls his gun out on Micah as he attempts to locate his wallet.
As the family has dinner, they are unaware that Micah was pulled over. Charley begins to worry as Micah won’t pick up his phone.
Aunt Vi calls Hollywood and he finally picked up. She tells him about Micah and he put her worries to ease assuring her that Micah will be just fine.
Charley and Nova find the car on highway and Nova gets word that Micah was taken into custody. Micah is scared as he is put into the police lockup. Later on, Charley, Davis and Nova head to the station to get him.
The police officers are not helpful when Charley and Davis ask about Micah, whose in a holding cell. However they get help only when one of deputies recognizes Davis as an NBA superstar.
The deputies tell Davis they don’t know of a Micah in their custody. Its only when Davis reluctantly agrees to take picture with the officers that Micah is located and released from the holding cell.
Micah walks out of the station visibly shaken. He slowly walks towards Nova and Nova embraces him. She then notices Micah urinated on himself in the holding cell. She then wraps her sweater around his waist. Charley and Davis argue about the car.
Before they part ways, Micah takes credit for getting the police to cooperate and tells Charley that she does need him.
RA and Darla slow down their relationship.
Later when the dinner ends, RA tells Darla that he doesn’t think she needs the NA meetings. He tells Darla that he is willing to support her as she deals with her disease of drug addiction. Although she is happy about this, she tells him that the meeting are necessary in order for her to stay clean. She suggests the two of them to slow things down. She reassures RA that despite the slow down, they are still very much together. She just doesn’t think it’s a good idea for them to keep “playing house.”
Nova wakes up with another white man in her bed, and kicks him out.
Blue wakes up and questions when his mom is coming over. He then tries to talk RA into making pancakes.
Micah and Charley wake up with Micah not wanting to talk about being detained. It’s apparent he’s still very much shaken up.
When looking at the papers for the loan, Charley forges Davis’ signature.

I wish Charley would actually give Ralph Angel a chance. He’s actually doing a good job with the land.
