The gang has to clean up the shop after a disaster of an anniversary party.
JR, Phor and Charmaine are at the shop cleaning up and discussing Ryan and Van’s blowup at the party.
JR feels like Ryan has a right to do what he wants with 9Mag, and Charmaine feels like Ryan taunted Van and cause the altercation.
“You wouldn’t get irritated if someone was throwing chips in your face?” – Charmaine
When Ryan walks in, Phor tells him that he and Van were both wrong. But Ryan is over the disrespect in the shop and he wants things to change.
He doesn’t feel like he has to fix his relationship with Van since he threw chips at him and he feels that’s what started their physical altercation.
Rachel and Ryan later go out with friends to vent about the drama at the shop.
Rachel feels like Van needs to go because he doesn’t respect Ryan’s decisions as the boss. She also feels like Van disrespected everybody in the shop on the night of the party with his actions, including her.
She tells Ryan she would change the locks if she was in his shoes.
The conversation changes into marriage, and their friends question when they are going to make things official. But Ryan isn’t ready to tie the knot, even though he claims Rachel’s mother has been on him about it.
Van and Jenn are doing very well.
Van and Jenn are in a good place and he even gave her the key to his place.
They cook a meal with his daughter and he questions how her grades are. He’s not happy to learn she has a D in Biology.
“I really don’t want my daughter to emulate any of the things I did in high school at all.” – Van
Van’s brother calls him and tells him that their Uncle Shine passed away the previous night. He had an aneurysm and bled out. With his father being dead for so many years, his uncle raised him and became his father figure.
He’s really hurt and saddened by the loss.
Charmaine has problems at her radio job.
Charmaine is interviewing Chicago rapper Lil Bibby, and she mistakes him for trying to flirt when he asks her about the food pictures she posts to Snap Chat.
Neak surprises her with food and they start kissing all on each other.
Her boss Johnny sees them and he calls her out for eating on the job and making out with Neak while on the clock.
Johnny tells her it’s not a good look to carry on this way in front of an artist. He puts her on a 30 day probation.
Don still isn’t speaking to Ashley.
Ashley says in her green screen interview that Don hasn’t been talking to her since their fallout at the party.
When she asks him why he blew up the way he did, he tells her he’s really stressed out about her trying to quit her job and become a housewife.
Ashley thinks Don took it too far with his angry outburst but Don feels like she needs to stop making him angry.
She suggests that they get back involved in church.
Don isn’t sold that Jesus is the answer to their problems.
Kat and Danielle plan to party in LA.
They discuss their plans for the night, and Kat’s prospective boo Zach comes by to hang out. Kat has been hanging out for Zach for a couple of months and she’s curious to see where things go.
Right now, she’s enjoying their “Netflix and chill” setup.
Kat invites Zach to party with her and Danielle.
Danielle begins to feel like the third wheel.
While dancing at the club, Kat and Zach get couple like and kiss in front of Danielle.
This makes Danielle uncomfortable because she feels like it’s putting a damper on the night.
“I don’t know what LA did to Katrina but this is not the girl that I know.” – Danielle
Danielle gets fed up and walks out the club.
Kat comes to talk to her and find out what the issue is. Danielle reminds her that she just told her she had a miscarriage and she just wanted to have a fun night with just the two of them.
She says she likes Zach and has no issue with Kat being happy with him, but she wanted Kat to there for her during a difficult time.
Kat thinks it’s messed up because Danielle is in a relationship and she’s never given her a hard time about spending time with Terrence.
Kat wants the same respect but Danielle thinks LA has changed Kat.
After they argue, Danielle leaves.
Van goes to the funeral home.
Losing his uncle completely changes his life. He’s not sure how to handle life without his Uncle’s support.
Seeing his Uncle’s body is hard to do but it motivates him to stand up to Ryan once and for all.
Ryan changes the locks.
Ryan is determined to change the way he runs the shop. He now feels like everyone doesn’t deserve a key anymore, so he hires a locksmith to change the locks.
JR thinks it’s a good idea and Van needs to understand he doesn’t run anything.
Charmaine comes to the shop while the locksmith is there and she tells Ryan he is going way too far.
Ryan refuses to back down and the new admin, Alonitza, backs him and says this is how businesses are run. She tells Charmaine that in normal businesses, everyone isn’t a key holder. This frustrates Charmaine. She tells Alonitza to “shut the f*ck up” in her green screen interview.
JR also defends Ryan’s choice and Charmaine says he’s “barely 9 Mag” and should keep his “irrelevant opinions” to himself in her green screen interview.
Kat tries to make up with Danielle
Kat tries to talk things out with Danielle, but Danielle admits her feelings were hurt because she felt pushed to the side.
Kat apologizes and promises Danielle she will have her full attention the remainder of her time in LA.
Van calls and tells them that his uncle passed away. He asks Kat to come back to Chicago to help him deal with the shop drama and she tells him she will think about it.
Van and JR throw down.
When Van comes to the shop, he notices his key no longer works. He knocks but no one answers because Charmaine, JR and Alonitza are too busy fooling around and twerking to hear him.
Van then goes to his car and gets a crowbar.
He knocks the windows out of the shop and lets himself in.
This freaks out Charmaine, JR and Alonitza.
They tell him Ryan changed the locks and JR tells him that he will need to pay for the damage. Van strongly disagrees and they start arguing.
They start fighting and security breaks them up.
What are your thoughts on the episode?
Van is a hot mess period.
I’m with JR on this. If Ryan is the owner of 9Mag, why do the homies/workers think they have a part in the decision making of the business? All they do probably is pay their booth rent but don’t put money into the shop or anything. I think they are confused. It’s okay to call yourself family because you started together but the reality is that the business is not yours. Van, Danielle and Charmaine get over it.
Amen.
How has Van not been fired yet?
Van did the absolute most. He needs to bring it down to a 2.
I agree with Jr bt at the same time Ryan was the same one crying abt 9Mag being a family when Kat wanted to better her career
These ppl are a HAM! Charmaine.. girl get your life together. Why are you always dressed like a hooker?! ??♀️??♀️ Van.. that’s not your business bro. Get yo life!! Grow up dude! You are out here being real reckless and immature! Danielle.. what are u doing except drinking and partying? Get a real job and learn to take responsibility. These ppl are acting real childish and wack. They honestly feel entitled to Ryan’s business and like they have a say in how things are ran. Smh
Even last season Van was upset at changes in the shop. Bruh, this ain’t your shop. All of them talk about loyalty. But you can’t be loyal when you’re disrespectful. 2 people were fired and show up at the shop when Ryan wasn’t around. Van felt that Ryan should step up as a man and call him instead of locking him out. But shows up at 9Mag when Ryan is out of town. Why not face him?
