Paper Boi’s long time connect robs him.
The episode opens on a dark street, only lighted by a road overpass. Paper Boi hops out of his car with a duffel bag.
Next, Paper Boi jumps into the backseat of a car, driven by his apparent weed connect Black. As they wait to complete a transaction, his connect praises him on his new single.
“That thing fire bro.” – Black
As he is getting his money ready, Paper Boi also reminds him he wants Molly, in addition to the weed. Things are still going quite pleasant as Paper Boi praises him on the weed he got from him last time.
However, things change quickly after Black pulls out a gun on Paper Boi.
“Hey. My fault bruh.” – Black
When the gun is pointed into his stomach, Black apologizes for robbing him. He then says Paper Boi will be alright, referring to his new single.
“Your song is hot, bruh. Probably go platinum or some shit.” – Black
Paper Boi replies, “I ain’t making no money off that f***ing song, n****.” – Paper Boi
“I need this shit, bruh,” Paper Boi’s connect then says.
He then tells him to get out of the car, leaving his keys behind.
“I don’t you to chase after me when I pull off, bruh.” – Black
His connect had a child lock on the back seat door and Paper Boi unlocks it from the other side. While walking off, Black drives up next to Paper Boi apologizing for robbing him.
“I’ma pay you back, man. Appreciate you man.” – Black
Earn’s meeting with a streaming platform goes quite awkward.
The next day, Paper Boi vents to Earn about what happened with his connect. He tells Earn he shopped with his connect for ten years. Luckily, Darius helped Paper Boi get his car from the scene of the crime.
Paper Boi mostly is frustrated because the connect took most of his money and kept the drugs. Despite this, Earn tells him to be careful, which frustrates him even more.
“He better hope I don’t catch him slipping out here, boy… I at least gotta pistol that guy to death. I mean damn!” – Paper Boi
This talk really scares the woman who is holding the door open for them.
Meanwhile, Earn has Paper Boi in a meeting with a streaming platform. They meet Peter Savage, who calls himself 35-Savage due to his age. They want Paper Boi to put his music on their platform.
Things go awkwardly during the meeting. First, the company can’t play CD’s in their new system. Secondly, 35-Savage can’t connect Earn’s phone to the wi-fi. Lastly, the email of the music apparently is corrupted, because it cuts off as they start playing the tracks.
Paper Boi does his best to hold back his frustrations.
Next, Paper is with another person, laying drops for the “Fresh Mix Rap playlist.”
Paper’s anger really seems to bubble up as the white employee asks him for more emotions when laying the drop.
“Lets do one that’s cool… like, cool.” – Engineer
So, Paper Boi does it the only way he knows how.
“…Long live fresh, n****a.” – Paper Boi
This just makes things even more awkward. Paper looks back at Earn, but Earn is outside of the room eating a small box of Cheerios. Meanwhile, the other employees are just staring intently at Earn. When Earn notices, everyone suddenly scrambles to act normal.
They meet rapper Clark County and Paper Boi walks out.
Later, Earn walks through the office, past a few employees playing ping-pong. He comes across another meeting where a rapper is dancing on a desk as the white employees stare intently. It seems like they are in a zoo watching an animal perform.
When Paper Boi walks up, Earn says, “This place, umm… has a vibe.”
“He** yeah.” – Paper Boi
However, Earn is excited Paper Boi is gonna work with the platform. Despite Earn’s excitement, Paper wants to see the check he will get from this endeavor.
Suddenly, Paper Boi is greeted by another fan. This time, however, it’s another rapper; Clark County. Clark County is really excited to see another black person in the building.
“It’s nice to see some black folks up in here man.” – Clark County
Things get a little awkward when his manager Lucas shows up. Lucas is the white guy from season one who only feels comfortable using the N word in front of Earn only, much to his annoyance.
They exchange greetings.
It’s time for Paper Boi to perform but he walks off just as the first hook drops. He had difficulty getting into the performance considering no one else seemed into it anyway.
Darius helps out Paper Boi, and Earn jumps in on Tracy’s gift card scam.
Back at the crib, Darius dropped an envelope of cash from the dog breeding a few months ago. This changes Earn’s mood.
“At least someone’s getting paid in this b****.” – Paper Boi
Darius tells Paper Boi not to worry, because he lined up meetings with potential connects.
As Earn happily counts about $4000 in cash, Paper Boi’s friend from jail, Tracy, hops out of the kitchen.
“I can double that for ya!” – Tracy
Earn initially brushes him off, and Tracy tells Paper Boi to remind him of who he is. Paper Boi tells him he has a gift card “scheme.”
“You give me the cash, and I’ll double it on any card you want!” – Tracy
He then tells Earn, “It was a steal,” referring to how Paper Boi got his big flat screen TV.
As Tracy refers to it being hot in the apartment, Paper Boi clowns him on his wave cap and wave grease he’s wearing. Tracy tells them he has a job interview and the waves must be on point.
A curious Darius wants to see the hair style, and tries to take the do-rag off Tracy’s head.
“They in the oven right now. I got to let them bake, baby.” – Tracy
Meanwhile, Earn is really curious on doubling his money, so he takes Tracy up on his offer. So Tracy takes Earn with him to the mall.
Paper Boi gets angered by their first potential connect.
Darius takes Paper Boi to their first meeting. The connect, Shag seems cool and they like his product. However, things go bad when Paper Boi catches him taking a photo with his iPhone.
He asks Darius if he’s cool, and Darius assures him he’s okay. But that changes when Darius sees the connect post a photo of them looking at his product to Instagram. The photo caption reads, “Real n****s working #igotthatpaper.”
They ended the meeting short.
Tracy steals from a shoe store.
Meanwhile, Earn is with Tracy in the mall. Tracy takes Earn to a shoe store, where he asks him for advice for the interview. Tracy also mentions that he seems to be “the preppy type.”
Earn tells Tracy to, “Don’t call them white folks… and talk confidently.”
His mood changes when Tracy tells Earn he isn’t going to use gift cards to pay for the shoes; he’s going to steal them.
“They got a no chase policy.” – Tracy
Suddenly, an employee timidly walks up asking Tracy if he wants help. However, Tracy keeps talking to Earn, telling him most of the stores have this policy. “It’s a liability thing,” Tracy tells Earn.
“Even if they see me stealing, they can’t chase me.” – Tracy
When Tracy runs off with the multiple pairs of shoes, the employee barely moves from his spot saying, “Excuse me sir!”
The employee, named Brian, angrily stares at Earn, who stares at him right back. Apparently, Earn didn’t know Tracy would do this. Earn awkwardly backs away and casually walks out of the store.
Another connect meeting gets awkward for Paper Boi and Darius.
Darius and Paper Boi are at another meeting with a potential connect. They try his product, which has Paper staring intently at an iguana with fake dragon wings taped to its back. The product has Paper thinking the Iguana is roaring.
Paper Boi praises the connect, who tells him its grown from Humboldt County, California.
The connect is also a big fan, but doesn’t seem too pressed about. He gave him a discount for product and Paper Boi seems to be impressed. The connect also notes his girlfriend is a fan. In fact, she introduced the connect to Paper Boi’s music.
They walk out of the meeting still high. Darius is so high, he struggles to walk to the car. But he’s sober enough to tell him that their boy Jeff used him as a connect.
Their mood changes when Andy, the connect, sends a video of his girlfriend playing his hit song on an Acoustic Guitar.
Andy’s girlfriend then sends them a series of group texts, asking him to go out on a date for coffee with her and Andy. Paper Boi throws the phone out the car and drives off. As they drive off, the text messages still roll in.
Earn gets duped by the Tracy’s scam.
Back at the mall, Earn uses the scammed gift card to buy a pair of shoes. When he gets out of the store, he gets a text from Tracy. Tracy tells him that “they are on to him,” and has 20 minutes to unload the card.
We next see Earn walking around the parking lotwith thousands of dollars worth of products around his neck and in both arms. However, Tracy is nowhere to be found. He texted Tracy, who replied he is at his job interview.
“Oh Im-a kill this n****!” – Earn
Earn returns to Paper Boi’s apartment, but he’s missing a few items. He notes he had to take the bus and an old lady stole his vitamin blender.
Earn is also angry because he couldn’t spend his entire $4,000 and feels Tracy owes him money.
Paper Boi tells Earn, “Good luck in getting any of that d*** money back.”
As Earn sits on the couch, Paper offers a hit of his blunt. Suddenly, a Yoohoo drink commercial appears on TV, featuring Clark County. Darius says, “He’s making money man,” as Clark raps on the commercial.
Paper Boi mumbles, “Man… I hate this s***.”
“This s*** is good.” – Earn
Tracy gets duped by the Hiring Manager.
Lastly, Tracy is at the interview waiting on the hiring manager.
When Tracy walks into the office, he removes the wave cap and his waves are in full effect. His hair is shiny and full of 360 degree waves.
Tracy proudly pitches to the manager, and things seem to go well. However, the manager says, “I don’t think we’ll be able to offer you a job here right now.”
“We’re just fully staffed at the moment.” – Hiring Manager
Suddenly, Tracy gets up, yells out, “Man, f*** y’all,” knocking over a cup full of pens from his desk.
“Y’all racist as h*** up in here, man! Get some black people up in here! That’s your mother***ing problem, boy!- Tracy
The episode ends as Tracy walks off yelling, “I don’t want to work for you anyway. Ameri-KKK, n*gga!”
What did you think of the episode?
Earn is so stupid. He damn near cried over that money last season just to lose it all when he finally got it this season.
I think the whole point of his character is to demonstrate that you can be book smart but lack all common sense because he has none.
Earn has no street smarts whatsoever.
The Bobby Shmurda shade though.
Umm where is Van?
