‘Fix My Life’ Recap: Iyanla Helps Woman Whose Sister Wants Nothing to Do With Her

Iyanla’s shocked to learn of Jackie’s past.

The episode begins with Iyanla introducing herself to Jackie. They sit down for their first meeting. Iyanla received a letter from Jackie asking for help.

Jackie feels there is a disconnect between her and her sister. She explains to Iyanla she had her first child at age 15, and got kicked out at 16.

“I guess you could say I was a bad teenager…” – Jackie

When she left, Jackie’s mom kept the baby. She then met Breana’s father, who introduced her to selling her body.

She did this at a massage parlor while pregnant. Jackie told her kids she sold her body, and Iyanla felt this was too much for them.

“There’s a lot of things kids need in life. But few of them need to know they momma was a hoe.” – Iyanla

Jackie’s dad had serious mental issues and was addicted to alcohol. Lastly, Jackie says she lashes out and is short-tempered. Iyanla explains that Jackie did this because she never learned how to be a mother and woman.

This breaks Jackie down and she begins to cry. Iyanla says she seems to be stuck at 15. This occurred when Jackie’s mother kicked her out of the house.

At the end of their first meeting, Iyanla gets Jackie to commit to staying throughout the whole process.

Iyanla is angered by Jackie’s sister LaTonya.

Next, Iyanla meets with LaTonya. LaTonya feels Jackie is only on this show to get famous. Iyanla asks if they talked before the show and LaTonya says she blocked Jackie’s number.

To get to the bottom of things, Iyanla reads LaTonya’s letter, and through the reading, LaTonya rolls her eyes.

“She didn’t write that letter,” LaTonya says.

“Jackie is the devil. Don’t let her find out you disagree with her. She’ll kick those cameras.” – LaTonya

Iyanla and LaTonya begin to argue as Iyanla tries to get LaTonya not to judge her. She begins to understand Jackie’s frustrations with LaTonya.

Iyanla sees Jackie desiring a relationship with LaTonya. However, LaTonya seems to desire keeping Jackie away at a distance.

LaTonya doesn’t seem to budge from her initial feelings or participate in Jackie’s process.

Jackie goes off on Iyanla and production, revealing a devastating secret.

Meanwhile, Brittaney, Iyanla’s producer, got ahold of Jackie who had a breakdown behind the scenes. When on the phone, Jackie tells Iyanla she’s quitting.

“I have decided not to finish. Y’all can finish with LaTonya…” – Jackie

This revelation angers Iyanla as she previously asked Jackie to stay until the end of the process.

“Didn’t you tell me you’d commit to staying?” – Iyanla

Suddenly, Jackie’s anger increases and she begins calling LaTonya out of her name. Jackie is apparently sick and tired of others changing their tune about her once they talk to LaTonya. She feels Iyanla will do the same thing, but Iyanla nips that in the bud.

“You don’t get to tell me how to do my work. Show up or not, you wrote me, I didn’t write you!” – Iyanla

During Jackie’s breakdown on the phone, she tells Iyanla that LaTonya raped her after LaTonya was raped.

“I didn’t tell y’all… LaTonya raped me when I was a child. I didn’t tell y’all that she was one of my rapists. She raped me after [CENSORED] raped her.” – Jackie

This revelation stuns Iyanla and her producer. Jackie concludes by telling Iyanla, “When I get back there, If I come back there tomorrow, every demon in the b**** got… will be aired.”

Iyanla tells LaTonya to stay away from Jackie.

Day 2 begins with Iyanla talking with LaTonya. LaTonya says she expected Jackie’s response and ignored her.

“She is not looking for help.” – LaTonya

Iyanla played back Jackie’s revelation about being raped. LaTonya dismissed it.

Iyanla then asked if she feels Jackie is mentally ill, and LaTonya says yes. She then tells LaTonya that she’s emotionally dangerous towards Jackie.

“She’s not safe with you.” – Iyanla

Throughout all of this, LaTonya never wavered from her feedings and says she doesn’t want to help Jackie to get better.

“Stay away from her. You are a problem.” – Iyanla

Afterwards, Iyanla meets with Jackie, who reluctantly decided to return.

Jackie is forced to face herself in the mirror.

Iyanla played back a portion of their phone conversation and asks Jackie if they know if others are scared of her. Jackie says yes.

She then reads back sentences of what she said to Iyanla as they are written on a mirror. Iyanla did this as a way to explain to Jackie that the insults she threw at LaTonya were really directed at herself.

Iyanla then asked Jackie if she was diagnosed with a mental illness. Jackie revealed she got angry when she received medication from a therapist.

Next, Iyanla had Jackie explain how LaTonya raped her. Jackie explained that a man close to them raped LaTonya. Jackie had a neighbor call the police on the man and he was arrested.

Lastly, Iyanla told Jackie that LaTonya should stay as far away from her as possible. Jackie says, “This is for the best.”

At the end, Iyanla and Jackie hug it out.

Nikki clashes with Iyanla as Breanna defends Jackie.

Next, Iyanla meets with Breana and Nikki. Nikki says that her aunt LaTonya took care of her. She also calls Jackie judgmental.

“I feel like the problem is the relationship I have with my aunt.” – Nikki

Iyanla asks who raised her and she said that her grandmother raised her.

Breana jumped in and says, “It kills my momma.”

She also says she is here for emotional support for Jackie.

“I have to bring her back to earth.” – Breana

In her green screen interview, she says that twenty minutes of a conversation, her mom starts cussing her out.

Later on, Iyanla and Nikki begin to argue as Nikki explains she was told by LaTonya and her uncles Jackie abandoned her.

“It’s innapropriate for anyone to tell you your mother’s story, except your mother.” – Iyanla

“Okay Iyanla, whatever.” – Nikki

“What does that mean?” – Iyanla

“What you not gonna tell me is nothing wrong about my grandmother. It was her decision to have a baby and leave it at home.” – Nikki

“If my grand momma didn’t take my momma’s child, then we wouldn’t be going through this.” – Breana

Iyanla tells her it’s not her job to defend her mom.

In Breana’s interview, Breana breaks down crying because she doesn’t want anyone coming at her mom negatively.

Iyanla tells her she needs to give Jackie space to deal with her negative behavior.

Nikki reveals devastating pain of her own and Jackie is culpable.

When Iyanla says Jackie isn’t safe around LaTonya, Nikki said she didn’t know about that.

Randomly, Nikki revealed she had 8 miscarriages. She lost her last child at 36 weeks. In her interview, she revealed that Jackie told her that she hoped her baby dies.

Iyanla notices that there is a pattern of negativity in their family among the women that needs to be broken.

Jackie and her daughters apologize to one another, and set up boundaries.

Afterwards, Iyanla gets Jackie to speak to Breana and Nikki. She tells them that they all have patterns of behavior to break.

So Jackie to explain her story to her daughters. She tells Nikki she wanted to her mom, but let go when her mom told her to leave.

“It hurt so bad, but I had to let it go.” – Jackie

She then apologizes to her kids.

“I don’t want to have y’all scared of me.” – Jackie

Lastly, she wants them to have a better relationship than the relationship between her and LaTonya.

Nikki responds, saying she loves her mom “for life.”

Iyanla tells Breana and Jackie that they need to set up boundaries.

“A woman shows the world who you are…” – Iyanla

Breana then tells Jackie that she needs to find help after this.

After filming ended, Jackie and LaTonya had a long talk, and were able to get on the same page. As a result, they are working on their relationship.

Breana and Nikki are also working on their relationship as sisters, growing closer and are getting along with Jackie.
