Issa Rae Gives Details About Season 3 of ‘Insecure’

Issa Rae’s hit show “Insecure” returns this summer. And in a recent interview with “The Hollywood Reporter,” Issa teased what fans can expect in season 3.

Specifically, Issa touched on two things. One will be whether or not Issa and Molly will finally land some success. Issa also talks about wanting to tackle black masculinity this season.

The Hollywood reporter writes:

What themes do you want to explore in the next season?

I don’t want to give anything away! But I love black masculinity as it relates to black women. I think that’s something interesting that we haven’t gotten a chance to explore yet — and specifically toxic male black masculinity as it relates to black women. I’m trying to find a way to explore that and get a rounded storyline that isn’t preachy.

What else can you tease about season three?

This season is about adulting in a new way. I think we’ve watched our characters really fumble and f*** up — and in some ways in your 20s you are allowed that — but this season is about not acting like you’re naive anymore or that you don’t know better. So it is about, what does it look like to know better and to do better?

  1. Yeah the thing I don’t like about Insecure is the writing really panders to black twitter. They didn’t start doing that until season 2.

  2. I think I’m in the minority but last season was very meh to me. It’s like they were trying too hard to be shocking and controversial. I hope season 3 is much better.
