Charley offers to help Prosper pack.
The episode opens with Charley stopping by to see Prosper after church. Prosper needs to pack up because he’s moving off the farm.
“This house is all I got left.” – Prosper
Charley offers to pack up his house as he goes off to brunch with Aunt Vi.
Nova came by to help Charley to pack up Prosper’s home. Ralph Angel came by too. He needs to meet with Darla later to set up their official custody schedule. They all came across a photo of Ernest and Prosper when they were younger.
New photos angers Micah and his friends.
Micah has Ant and the crew over the house looking at the photos he took. They pause when they see photos of the plantation reenactment. They decide to protest the plantation for how they feel it disrespectful to black people.
“If they can’t respect our history, they can’t have our history.” – Ant
Micah’s asked if he’s in with the protest. He pauses as he experiences a flashback of his treatment by police.
“I’m in.” – Micah
Charley and Nova are reminiscing over their childhood as they’re still packing. She then asks Nova about the mystery man Vi told her about. But Nova brushes off the question.
Aunt Vi practices her pitch for her pie store with a couple of High Yellow waitresses. Prosper stops by for their brunch just in time. When Aunt Vi brings up Prosper moving, he insists that he has everything under control.
Aunt Vi reiterates that he needs to ask for help if he needs it.
“You’re family.” – Aunt Vi.
Darla hosts Ralph Angel at her new place. Ralph Angel’s impressed with what Darla did with the place, including Blue’s bedroom. Blue helped Darla paint and decorate the room. Ralph Angel walks in and notices Blue’s barbie doll on the bed.
Prosper leaves his farm.
Back at Prosper’s farm, he retursn and is sitting on his front lawn. It’s a tradition for him and his wife to sit outside after dinner. Charley and Nova finished packing and ready to head to his storage unit. Charley wants to wait with him until his daughter comes. However, Prosper told his daughter not to come.
Charley insists he takes her guest room.
“I’m not leaving here without you…” – Charley
“You’re stubborn just like your daddy.” – Prosper
Charley cracks a smile.
Prosper arrives with Charley just as Micah’s friends were leaving. Prosper’s impressed with the size of the home.
A Lupus flare up cuts Aunt Vi’s pitch short.
Aunt Vi finally meets with her investor Mr. Rollins. She gives her pitch and seems nervous. As she continues, her Lupus condition flares up, causing her to cut the pitch short. When the tries to leave, Aunt Vi gets light-headed. Mr. Rollins decides to drive her home.
Bach at Charley’s, Micah is showing Prosper how to use the TV. Micah notices how he likes to watch westerns.
Ralph Angel and Darla clash over Blue.
Darla and Ralph Angel go down the list for their custody rules. Ralph Angel asks for a key to her place, and Darla asks for more time with Blue. Ralph Angel says they should take it slow and Darla doesn’t agree.
She wants to have Blue 50 percent of the time.
Darla also wants to approve anyone before they meet Blue. This causes the two of them to argue.
Darla says Blue is happy at her place, and Ralph Angel asks what would happen if she lost her job, noting that Blue needs stability.
This angers Darla, who brings up how he’s brought many different people into his home after she left.
“That should’ve never happened.” – Darla
“A lot of s*** should’ve never happened” – Ralph Angel
“I am tired of having the same fight with you.” – Darla
“What the hell you know about being tired? Really?” – Ralph Angel
He points out how Darla’s parents are paying for her home and car.
“So what my parents are helping me. Did you pay for that house you’re living in? Or did you daddy give it to you?” – Darla
At this point, an angry Darla excuses Ralph Angel from her home.
Afterwards, Ralph Angel heads to his side job to pick up his check. He sees Trinh and she’s happy to have met Blue and his family. Ralph Angel is still reeling from his meeting with Darla and kept his words short with Trinh. She notices this and seems disappointed.
Micah and his friends plan their protest.
Micah and his friends are planning their protest. Their entire plan should take twelve minutes to complete at the plantation.
“Twelve minutes to stop the world and make them pay attention.” – Asha
When it comes to picking out assignments, Micah’s friends quickly pick their tasks, leaving Micah as the lookout.
Aunt Vi made it home thanks to Mr. Rollins. He brought by homemade chicken noodle soup. She thanks him and tells Mr. Rollins she was diagnosed with Lupus. Although he said investors were anxious to get started, he changes his tune.
Charley learns the Landry’s scheme with the EPA.
Nova got information from her friends in DC about Sam’s son Colton Landry. His friend Thomas Rhodes works for the EPA. They both were frat brothers in college. Nova suspects there’s funny business between Colton and Thomas.
“$100 dollars there’s nothing wrong with our soil.” – Nova
Charley’s ready to move with her evidence. They have a board meeting coming up soon and she wants to confront Sam about his son Colton, and the EPA. Nova’s attention turns to Prosper as she’s unsure about Charley moving with the information. She feels a bit of apparent guilt and sadness over Prosper being forced off his farm.
When Nova leaves, she heads into a field to burn sage over her photo of Ernest and Prosper.
Nova tells Ralph Angel about what she learned about Ernest.
Ralph Angel’s at home sad in Blue’s room when Nova comes by. She joins him in Blue’s room, sitting next to him. She asks for the bottle of Hennessy, taking a sip.
“I don’t want to talk about it.” – Ralph Angel
“Me either.” – Nova
Eventually, Ralph Angel reveals that he’s envious of how Darla’s set up a room for Blue. But Nova tells him Blue doesn’t need that.
“Blue don’t need all that,” Nova says. “He’s a kid. He’s happy with you.”
“For now, yeah,” Ralph Angel responds. “Whenever he go live with Darla and see all them new things, I ain’t really got a choice.”
“Okay, so you plan on not sleeping,” Nova replies. “Taking on more seafood shifts when you already got the farm to tend to.”
Ralph Angel tells her that their father worked that hard, and he plans on doing the same for Blue. Nova knows their father was strong—but she knows that he struggled too.
“So, you’re gonna run yourself into the ground trying to be like Daddy,” Nova says.
“Took a lot of strength what he did,” Ralph Angel responds.
Ralph Angel insists on doing it because it’s what Ernest did for him. At this point, Nova reveals to Ralph Angel his struggles with suicide.
“When you saw him at his strongest after mama died, he was at his lowest.” – Nova
Ralph Angel gets confused, and Nova explains how Ernest almost shot himself until Prosper stopped him. Nova tells him not to shoulder his burdens alone.
“Just stay the course, RA.” – Nova
Ralph Angel shares a moment with Trinh.
At home, Charley enters her living rom to check on Prosper. Charley wakes him and takes Prosper to bed.
The next day, Ralph Angel heads to the seafood plant and joins Trinh eating her lunch. She asks him about the last time they saw each other. Ralph Angel turns down the extra shifts he asked for and invites her to the garden Aunt Vi told them about.
“You know Aunt Vi really liked you.” – Ralph Angel
“I know.” – Trinh
They then share a hug as the episode ends.
