Issa struggles to kill time while Daniel entertains another woman.
The episode opens with Issa lying on Daniel’s couch while Daniel’s in the bedroom with another woman. The woman’s screams coming from the bedroom annoys Issa to no end.
Just then, she gets a buzz on her phone. She angrily grabs her jacket and heads out the door. On her car is a Left sticker. She pulls to a curb and picks up her passenger Elijah.
Things immediately go bad when Elijah throws up in Issa’s back seat.
Molly wraps up her vacation, and Issa struggles at work.
Meanwhile, Molly’s enjoying her last day of vacation on the beach. Lewis joins her by her side with a drink. He tells her that their time together doesn’t have to end.
“Oh. You gotta visa?” – Molly
“I’m from Cincinnati.” – Lewis
Molly says, “Oh,” and laughs it off.
Issa wakes up the next morning, struggling to find a mirror in the bathroom to use. She is preparing to rap her stress away like usual. Daniel walks in to use the bathroom, and Issa moves out of his way. She then asks him if he knew she was home, implying the girl was way too loud.
“Yeah…” – Daniel
Issa murmurs to herself and heads to work at We Got Y’all. She’s in a cubicle now instead of in schools. A co-worker hands her a call sheet of schools to make check-in calls to. Issa reluctantly does it. She notices schools are crossed out and they deal with something about schools firing them.
Her work buddy Frieda comes over to “spy” for Joanne. She tells Issa she isn’t ready to rock the boat, helping Issa get her old job back. Frieda just started her new position.
Daniel’s frustrated with the talent he’s working with.
Meanwhile, Daniel’s in the studio with his crew. Daniel’s frustrated with the talent his crew brought to the booth. The girl sings off-key and her lyrics are elementary.
“Where the f*** you find these people, brah?” – Daniel
His buddy tells Daniel he can fix her vocal, and to just focus on the lyrics. Daniel’s still frustrated working with the less talented artist. But his partner tells him that the girl in the booth is Spyder’s cousin, an artist Daniel’s been desperate to work with.
The girl walks out the booth and asks how she sounds, Daniel lies to her and tells her he likes her voice and lyrics.
“I do be writing sometimes.” – Girl in Booth
Issa and Molly reunite.
Issa’s at the airport making another Lyft pickup of a customer. This time, her customer is Molly. Molly jokes with Issa and they both share a laugh when she gets in Issa’s car.
Issa expresses her frustration from driving with Lyft, and Molly tells her to quit.
“You need a break.” – Molly
“Break where? We can’t all switch jobs and take vacations.” – Issa
Molly then takes the moment to give Issa a gave gift; sand.
“It reminded me of your dry-a** p****.” – Molly
They head to Pann’s Diner for food and chit-chat. Issa tells her that Daniel’s been having s*x with other women while she’s been there. Molly tells her she should’ve moved in with her when Issa had the chance.
Issa brings up a broken vase incident from 2005 that keeps her from wanting to move back in with Molly.
While they’re talking, Dre calls Molly, but she ignores it. Issa side-eyes it.
Molly tells Issa her vacation gave her a new prospective on things, which included keeping her beach d*** at the beach, and demanding her new law firm give her a PPO.
“I’m on some ‘know better, do better’ s***.” – Molly
“That’s dope.” – Issa
In contrast, Issa says she’s been tip-toeing in life because of what’s been happening at work and personally.
“Like, I can’t speak up about anything.” – Issa
Molly tells Issa she can always talk to her. Issa changes the subject to Dro, and Molly shuts it down. She tells Issa that he’s just a “f*** buddy,” and has a wife. She wants to maintain boundaries with Dro.
Things get quiet for a moment, and Molly brings back up the broken vase from 2005.
“I didn’t do s*** to your vase!” – Issa
Daniel’s sister reminds him of Issa’s intentions.
Meanwhile, Daniel arrives at his sister’s place. As she braids her daughter’s hair, Ke’vyn, a parody of black 90’s sitcoms, plays on the TV. When he walks in, she tells Daniel is in the kitchen and he’s reminded he agreed to look after his niece.
Daniel asks what time Jada needs to come by his place because Issa’s still staying on his couch.
“D***. How much longer?” – Lilian
“Another two weeks.” – Daniel
Lilian gives him a look, implying there’s more going on between Daniel and Issa than just crashing on the couch.
“You’re putting too much onto it. That door is closed.” – Daniel
“Who closed it?” – Lilian
Jada throws in her side comment but Lillian shuts her down quickly.
Lilian brings up that Issa could’ve crashed anywhere.
“But she chose your spot.” – Lilian
Daniel shrugs it off and grabs his guitar. When he walks out, Lilian jokingly asks if Issa or Vanessa will watch Jada.
Daniel heads to the studio to use the guitar, playing melodies along with pre-recorded beats.
As he’s processing and vibing out to his music, Issa walks in. She asks for a glass whiskey and pours it. Issa then brings up how she noticed live instruments played over his beats.
Daniel seems impressed by Issa catching onto this fact.
“I’m observant.” – Issa
They both share a slight laugh and things seem easy for a moment. Daniel leans in for a kiss, and Issa stops it.
“I don’t think we should do this. I think we should… know better.” – Issa
This turns things a bit more serious as Daniel seems frustrated by the apparent hints of jealously Issa showed earlier in the day.
He then asks her why is she crashing on his couch.
“Why are you here?” – Daniel
“Cause I needed a place to stay and you’re close to work.” – Issa
She says that she thought she was staying as just a friend. Daniel reluctantly agrees. Issa awkwardly ends the conversation.
Molly sets boundaries with Dro.
Meanwhile, Molly’s at home and Dro’s there, going down on her. The next morning, Dro and Molly wake up in her bed. He’s asking about her day when Candiace calls. Dro picks up and says he’s still at Molly’s place.
That seemingly angers Molly and she gets up.
“Look, we need to decide if we’re friends who don’t have s*x, or acquaintances who just have s*x. Because anything otherwise, is muddy, and I need boundaries.” – Molly
Dro agrees and asks what she suggests. Molly suggests that they have s*x and nothing else. Not even pancakes in the morning, hinting that Dro needs to leave.
Joanne ignores Issa’s legitimate concerns of their new company logo.
At work, Issa’s making more check-in calls. A principal says they are going with another organization and We Got Y’all new logo is racist.
The logo is a white hand holding three black children.
“Y’all need to do better.” – School Principal
Issa apologizes and thanks him for his feedback. She looks at the logo and then sees Joanne walk in.
She then calls the other schools asking for feedback. She’s told that the organization has Issa as the only black employee, very Eurocentric, and the ones in the field are mean.
Issa takes this to Joanne, and Joanne seems dismissive. Joanne didn’t like Issa asking these questions during the phone calls.
“If I wanted you to speak on our behalf, I would’ve left you out in the field.” – Joanne
She then tells Issa that she’s been the source of a lot of issues at her job.
Issa’s party life experiences violence.
Molly’s at a nail salon when Dro calls. He asks about her job negotiations and wants to celebrate at El-Cholo’s. Molly reluctantly agrees to meet him there at 9 pm.
When she’s getting ready, Issa asks Molly to join her in a Party Lyft. Issa tells Molly she’s doing this to kill time while Daniel entertains a woman.
Issa picks up two young women who are looking to party. When they dropped them off, Issa receive 5 stars, but no tip. They left a comment, saying Issa reminded them of their aunt.
Next, they pick up Nathan who needs to head 4 miles, but it takes 30 minutes. While riding, Nathan is convinced by Molly to change his dinner plans to a closer spot.
While driving, Issa sends a text to Daniel.
“So, what’s the word?” – Issa
For now, Daniel ignores it. Issa convinces Molly for them to pick up another passenger, although Molly doesn’t think he’s cute.
“So I made the cut? You LA chicks be wildin.” – Nathan
Molly texts Dro, telling him she’s running late.
They arrive to pick up their passenger who barely fits in the back seat. He tries to roll up a blunt in the back seat and Issa asks him to stop. But, he ignores Issa. Nathan grabs the blunt, throwing it out of the window.
This causes the two men to fight in the back seat and Issa and Molly panic.
Issa eventually pulls over, and Nathan runs off, leaving the man with his eyes apparently injured.
Issa finally opens up to Daniel about her feelings.
The next morning, Issa walks into Daniel’s place with Daniel siting on the couch. Issa sits silently on the opposite end of the couch.
She breaks the silence, asking him about not responding to her text. He says he fell asleep.
He gets up and asks why Issa’s having issues.
“There’s no problem. You’ve been letting me stay here for free, you’ve been super-generous with your space. And the last thing I wanna do is come at you like I’m ungrateful, but… I know I told you I didn’t care, but I do. And I still have feelings for you.” – Issa
“It’s just that you said you came here because you wanted to be close to your job. But now, you’re telling me that you got feelings and s***. So what is it, alight? I’m confused.” – Daniel
Issa finally opens up to Daniel and tells him she came because she knew he’d be there for her.
“And I really need someone like that in my life right now.” – Issa
She tells him that he makes it hard to open up to him.
“But Daniel, don’t act like your innocent, and don’t know what you’re doing. I mean, you’re f***ing other girls in front of me like we don’t have history.” – Issa
Daniel says okay and heads into his room.
Molly puts her foot down with Dro.
Molly’s at home fresh out the bath. She’s in her sleep clothes when Dre surprises her in her kitchen.
They share a kiss and then Molly asks for her key back. That throws Dro for a loop, and he asks why.
“Because it’s my key.” – Molly
Molly emphasizes that she’s not wanting to be in the middle of whatever Dro and Candice got going on.
“Just because you and Candice get to do whatever and f*** whomever don’t mean we all want our s*** that messy!” – Molly
“First of all, don’t talk about what me and my wife do, alright? So you need to figure out what you’re doing and what you want.” – Dre
“I know I want my key back.” – Molly
Dro angrily stares at Molly, hands her the key and storms out.
The episode ends with Issa at Daniel’s watching Kev’yn when she receives a $50 tip from Nathan. Daniel dressed and heads out, meets with a woman named Vanessa. Issa thanks him for everything again.
When he leaves, Issa opens her Lyft app and heads out to pick up more passengers.
