Issa Rae’s comedy “Insecure” has been a major hit for HBO.
But three seasons in, and there seems to be a bit of a slow down with the ratings.
As we recently reported, Lawrence was written out of the show and makes no appearances on the current season.
This led to the Lawrence Hive creating a petition.
Issa stated that from a writer’s perspective, it made no sense to keep Lawrence on the show if he and Issa were not going to ever get back together.
And Issa Dee’s relationship with Daniel has now become the center of the show.
However, the ratings have declined.
Last season, the show hit over a million viewers for every episode with the exception of the last two episodes. The season 2 finale brought in 806,000 viewers.
The season 3 premiere brought in 699,000 viewers. The following episode brought in 672,000 viewers. That’s about a 20 percent drop from the season finale.
Does this mean the show is in trouble? Not necessarily. HBO most likely won’t panic unless the ratings hit a series low.
Plus, the show is still bringing in more viewers than it did in the first season.
But one does have to wonder if the absence of Lawrence is alone the reason for the decline.
