Iyanla reminds Melvin and Marvin of lessons already learned.
The episode opens with the return of the Mitchell Family. Things are already intense. This includes Michael Jr. looking disheveled in his suit and Marvin and Melvin arguing.
Things got so heated between Marvin and Melvin, Kizzy goes to listen to Marvin go off in a separate room. Iyanla comes in and reminds him of what he learned the last time they were together, calming him down. She then goes to talk to Melvin, Mikuel and Michael Jr. Iyanla reminds Melvin to remember to walk away.
She then has them recall the portraits of a man they worked on the last time they were together.
“Why do you think I gave you this? Y’all are supposed to be my shining stars, yet y’all are acting like fools.” – Iyanla
Finally, Iyanla brings all of them together and asks them what’s been going on since their last meeting. Michael Jr. is still humiliating himself on YouTube and social media. Now, he’s living with roommates, moving out of his father’s home. Michael Jr. says he just moved out and Marvin calls him out.
“That’s why we’re back; because everyone is full of s***.” – Marvin
Michael Jr. has an outburst.
Next, Michael revealed he’s been suicidal but his brothers, specifically Marvin haven’t been supportive. Marvin reveals that he’s been avoiding talking to Michael Jr because he doesn’t want to listen to what he’s talking about. This leads to a surprising outburst from Michael Jr. He yells out to Melvin, “you ain’t going anywhere.”
“I’m your brother! You don’t talk to me!” – Michael Jr.
Iyanla explains to Melvin and the other brothers that Michael is acting out because he’s lonely. Overall, Iyanla explains that they must respect each other’s experiences.
Markis reveals that he didn’t do what he needed to do as a brother for all of them. In fact, Markis is at the point where he’s tried to take his own life slashing his wrists.
“I’m done, ready to go.” – Markis
“Then why are you here?,” Iyanla asks.
“Because I failed.” – Markis
Iyanla scoffs at this, explaining to him that he really didn’t fail.
Meanwhile, Mikuel says he’s separating from his brothers, keeping to himself. He feels he can turn off the anger.
At the end of their talk, Iyanla gives the brothers a symbolic “divorce” that will allow them to focus on themselves while they are in the house and heal their relationships with LaRonda and Kizzy.
Iyanla has had enough.
So first, Iyanla brings Kizzy to talk to the Mitchell brothers. Kizzy says she’s been doing her own thing, cutting herself off from her brothers and social media. Melvin scoffs at this and Marvin says she’s lying. He says her boyfriend went on a hiatus and she followed.
This causes Kizzy to break down, revealing she broke her ankle, lost her job and her house and changed her phone number. She then storms off in tears.
“We got to elevate this. You just can’t walk away.” – Iyanla
They all are reminded by Iyanla that they were supposed to announced to everyone that they needed space before cutting them off. Iyanla then asks Kizzy where LaRonda is and Kizzy doesn’t know. But Iyanla does and brings her out to confront all of them.
LaRonda says that they haven’t been communicating with her. It turns out no one has done anything with her. Not even Kizzy took LaRonda to a spa for a date. Kizzy lives in Texas and LaRonda was calling her from Kansas City but Kizzy never answered. Kizzy says LaRonda would not call her on her own. Marvin was on the phone with her each time and that bothers Kizzy. Iyanla reminds her that they had a template of how to communicate with one another.
Michael Jr. then interjects about photos on LaRonda’s Facebook page. LaRonda has only Kizzy on her page and Michael Jr. says LaRonda said she doesn’t “f*** with” Kizzy like that. That causes another argument involving Michael Jr., taking Iyanla over the edge. Iyanla then points at LaRonda and yells at her, telling LaRonda to, “set the standard.”
“You want to act like park apes! You won’t do it here!” – Iyanla
In her rant, she tells everyone that they are individuals and have the right to feel how they feel. But she holds LaRhonda responsible for everyone’s behavior.
Iyanla wants to dig deep into Markis’ sudden turn for the worst.
After this intense interaction, Iyanla takes Markis one one one. She first asks him why he’s so hard on himself.
“It has to be somebody’s fault.” – Markis
It’s revealed Markis’ kids live with their mother in Kansas City and she broke up with him. She broke things off with I’m because she didn’t want to have the kids near the street life and abuse. Things that occurred already is causing his twelve year-old to act out violently. He’s afraid that his oldest is already too far gone, fearing that his son will be just like him.
He breaks down crying when he reveals this to Iyanla. Iyanla reminds him that it’s not too late but he has to make a choice to get out of the street life. Next, she takes a card and writes down adjectives describing how he feels about himself, demonstrating that he shouldn’t make himself feel wrong for this.
Iyanla reminds MIkuel of his greatness.
Mikuel gets his one on one with Iyanla and she reminds him of the greatness he has as a true leader of the family. But she feels that he doesn’t know who he is. Iyanla encourages him to look at going to college and gets him to reveal he would major in Child Psychology. This revelation causes him to cry and encourage him to speak on it.
It struck a nerve because Mikuel doesn’t live with his children and it makes him doubt his abilities. He’s in all of his children’s lives but the arrangements makes him question everything in his words.
Iyanla makes him understand that he can break these patterns he learned growing up from his parents and lets him know that he is a good person who’s “divine, noble and worthy.”
“Now that you know you’re in a pattern, you can break it.” – Iyanla.
