‘Queen Sugar’ Recap: Blue Learns the Truth + Nova Rekindles an Old Flame

Ralph Angel tells Blue he has a big meeting.

The episode begins with Nova being stirred out of her sleep due to a nightmare. She records it and says it was her mom visiting her in her dreams.

Meanwhile, Ralph Angel stops by Darla’s to pick up Blue. Blue notices Ralph Angel’s cologne, calling it stinky flowers. Ralph tells Blue he has a meeting where he has to smell good.

Prosper’s at Aunt Vi’s talking to her about their friend Leon’s passing as Remy stops by the diner. Remy shares a hug with Aunt Vi and Prosper. Hollywood also comes out of the backroom to greet Remy.

Davis looks to Charley for help.

Meanwhile, at her office, Davis calls Charley in a panic. Davis’ hiring at Bayou State is being protested due to Nova’s book. She cuts the call shortly after telling Davis to stop by the mill. Just then, Romero stops by.

He tells Charley to “believe in the good” when it comes to Davis and Micah. She responds by kissing him.

Back in her bed, Dara ignores a call from Leo St Clair. She then prays to God for insight and better understanding, before throwing Nova’s book across her bedroom.

Nova’s on her book tour when Dr. Octavia Laurent, play by Cree Summer, throws tough questions at her. She calls her memoir’s self-aggrandizing and her conclusions in the book aren’t supported by any data. Nova stands up for herself but the crowd goes mum when Dr. Laurent calls Nova an amateur.

Remy gives one final goodbye.

At the Diner, Remy explains why he left and how his fling with Nova tore at him. Remy tells Hollywood that he didn’t feel like he belonged in the Parrish.

Hollywood tells Remy that he felt it should’ve worked out with Remy and Nova. Aunt Vi drops off a pie and tells him not to forget about them and to stop by anytime. Before he leaves, he tells Hollywood to tell Charley and Nova goodbye.

Meanwhile, Micah’s at the jail to visit his friend Ant.

Micah wants him to tell him how it’s really for him in Jail. He tells Micah that he needs to just keep his head down, stay out of trouble and when he gets out to not get out again.

He also shuts down Micah dismissing his being in jail as not worth it.

At the Mill, Davis is in a panic. He’s reeling from having to deal with the protest and begs Charley to do something before he gets fired.

Charley taels Davis to own the mistakes and perhaps the story will blow over. Davis isn’t so sure this is the case.

After her event, Nova goes to confront Octavia But Octavia had other plans, goading her into sitting with her class for a discussion.

Blue gets devastating news on the playground.

Meanwhile, Ralph Angel’s date with Joie’s mom goes well. As this date went well, Blue hears from his friend Marcus that he doesn’t have a “real” daddy. This news hurts Blue’s feelings.

Back on the date, Ralph Angel gets a disturbing call about Blue and he ends his date short.

Before he leaves Charley’s office, Davis expresses regret in how the relationship ended with Charley. He tries to kiss Charley but she brushes it off quickly.

Aunt Vi and Hollywood are catering to Leon’s funeral. As they’re packing up, Aunt Vi expressed fears about Jimmy Dale coming back. Although Hollywood can’t protect how Aunt Vi feels on the inside, he tells Vi he will be by her side.

She’s also angry for Nova for even stirring up the past.

During the sit down with Octavia’s class, Nova throws shade Octavia’s way. When Octavia dismisses her class, it’s alluded that Nova and Octavia may have a past.

Darla and Ralph Angel picked up Blue and Blue’s devastated about hearing Ralph Angel isn’t his real father. That stirs up major emotions in Darla, who’s angry with Nova about the book.

Ice raids the clinic at the Mill.

At the clinic at the mill, Ralph Angel’s worker Ignacio thanks Charley for helping set everything up. However, the happiness is short-lived as ICE storms into the place looking for immigrants. Ignacio gets caught up in the sweep and Charley and Romero to call his wife.

Someone called in a tip that the clinic was assisting undocumented workers.

Charley confronts the county sheriff and he tells her those people don’t belong in St. Joe’s and she made plenty of enemies when she had the prison shut down.

Micah’s getting a tattoo in honor of Ant and decided to drink whiskey to numb the pain. As a result, he ended up getting drunk.

Back at Darla’s, Blue is crying himself asleep and Darla’s desperate for help. However, Ralph Angel’s at his wits end with everything. In fact, Blue is the only thing keeping him together.

A flame rekindles.

Nova hears from Octavia that Octavia felt Nova would be her greatest legacy. However, Octavia isn’t pleased with Nova’s book. It turns out, Octavia’s only angry that she’s mentioned in one line. It’s revealed that two did have a past as they surprisingly share a passionate kiss.

After their lovemaking, Octavia console’s Nova on her couch. Octavia says she could travel with Nova on her book tour and make things like “the old days.”

Charley meets with Councilwoman Barrera and talks about the ICE raid. Barrera says the raid was a message for her PI Vicky digging into the highway plans. The construction begins in six months. But the Landry’s are taking the highway from St. Thomas Parrish.

Barrera says that running against Jacob could bring up more enemies than just the Landry family.

When the meeting’s over, Charley discovers Micah hungover with the tattoo bandage on his arm.

Darla and Ralph Angel tell the truth to Blue.

The next morning, Ralph Angel and Darla get Blue to reveal what Marcus told him. Ralph Angel tells him that he is his real daddy, even though he isn’t his biological father.

“Is that why I don’t look like you?” – Blue

“What you look like don’t matter.” – Ralph Angel

Ralph then places Blue’s hand over heart to tell him as long as his heart’s beating, he’ll be his father.

The episode ends with Darla and Ralph Angel hugging blue.
