The cast is divided over the altercation.
“Real Housewives of Potomac” isn’t lacking drama in its fifth season. Of course, a good bit of the drama is a result of Candiace Dillard and Monique Samuels‘ altercation. After some words were exchanged, things got violent at a winery. As things played out, a few of the other women decided to support Candiace. In fact, Gizelle Bryant said she didn’t want to be around Monique. She wanted to protect her image. And she also wanted to project Jamal Bryant’s image since he’s the pastor of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church.
Robyn Dixon and Wendy Osefo didn’t want to be around Monique either. So when it came down to events they were hosting, they chose not to invite her.
At this point, it just seemed as if these women were icing Monique out of the group. And this made it appear as if her future on the show was in jeopardy.
Interestingly enough, Ashley Darby and Karen Huger have continued to support Monique. They still filmed scenes with her and they were called out by the other women for not withdrawing support.
Ashley even went as far as to write a character statement for Monique’s countersuit. Turns out, she wasn’t over Candiace throwing a butter knife at her. Then there’s also those tweets Candiace penned on the day she gave birth.
As for Karen, she said she was neutral. In her opinion, Candiace and Monique were both wrong on that fateful day. Well, Candiace didn’t see things that way. So she’s not confident she can remain friends with Karen moving forward.
Ashley Darby addresses the women’s treatment of Monique Samuels.
These days, Candiace has stated that she’s not planning to stay on the show if Monique isn’t let go. She doesn’t think there is any way that she and Monique can ever move past the altercation.
However, Ashley disagrees. Not only does she think Monique and Candiace can both still be on the show, but she thinks they could bury the hatchet in the future.
And when it comes to forgiveness, Ashley finds it a bit hypocritical that the other women have been icing out Monique and not trying to understand her side of things.
In an interview with Hollywood Life, Ashley says, “I think that the ladies felt that Monique went too far. And yes, that is true. But where I think things get a little bit murky is some of their previously held ideas about Monique are now affecting their opinions now, because as I said, if everyone was able to move forward with Candiace after she tried to instigate a fight with me and they weren’t, you know, they’re like, ‘Oh, Ashley, it’s over. You have to get over it.’ So if I — if I’m being told that that’s the stance I need to take, then I think that there should be a little bit more understanding about Monique and realizing that this really is an issue between these two women. And they need to, you know, like let them work it out.”
