Beyonce is clearly one of the top female artists in today’s music game, but with the success of any music artist comes the comparisons of the legends who came in and changed the game while they were in diapers. Although Beyonce is working hard to establish her very own legacy, she’s still going to suffer the same fate as everyone else and will continue to get compared to other female entertainers who did create their own lane to walk in.
Legendary singer Natalie Cole recently sat down and chatted it up with The Grio about the new generation of divas, and it’s no surprise that Beyonce‘s name came up quite early on in the conversation. However, Natalie said that she honestly feels like Beyonce is the “new Madonna.” She tells The Grio:
“I think that it’s going to be interesting to see where Beyoncé’s career goes. Because now I would say, she is the new Madonna. Girls want to look like her; they want to dress like her… I think that she could be a great influence. She’s a nice girl, definitely not a “diva” in the sense of what we like to use as that definition.”
Natalie also talked about Kelly Rowland and says she understands why it’s been so hard for her to get out of Beyonce‘s shadow:
“I like Kelly Rowland, I think that she’s great. It’s hard to come out of the group of Destiny’s Child and still kick some butt. It’s hard to be in the shadow of a Beyoncé. I think Kelly is a classy girl… I think she’s done a really great job.”

I love Bey, but I don’t think she is the new Madonna. That would be Lady Gaga. I honestly don’t think Bey is like anyone before her. She can actually sing very well, perform well, and she’s a powerhouse in her own right. She can’t be compared to anyone and that’s what every artist should strive for. Why be a copy when you can be a masterpiece…an original?

Madonna? No ma’am. Bey doesn’t remind me of Madonna at all. Tina Turner? That’s more like it in my opinion. But even then, Bey is still her own woman.
And Kelly will stay in Bey’s shadow because every time she does an interview she’s talking about Beyonce. And to make it even worse, now she even made a song about her. She’s not smart when it comes to her career.
Isn’t Madonna the non talented old chick who can’t sing or dance to save her life? The only thing that saved her was she was controversial, in your face, and a trendsetter fashion wise. I think Lady Gaga (although she can actually sing and Madonna can’t) and Rihanna are more Madonna like than Bey. They are more in your face, and controversial.
I see no lies in what she said ain’t nobody in Bey’s lane and has been in the last 10 years. I also agree w/ what she said about Kelly but she needs to stop talking about Beyonce if she really wants to go to the next level. And those Madonna fans better chill out and show some damn respect to the Queen!!!!

I know yall are mainly Bey stans on here but let’s not try to minimize Madonna because you love Beyonce. Madonna opened up the door for all these young pop stars and that is a fact. Had there been no Madonna, there would be no Beyonce, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Britney Spears…I can go on. She showed all of them how to be strong and a boss. She’s the truth and a living legend.
And I agree, Bey is not a new Madonna. She’s in her very own lane and that’s why she’s a big star now. I can say the same thing about Rihanna too.
The new Madonna? I can’t say I agree completely because Beyonce is actually a great singer and dancer. But I do agree that she has a lot of influence on young girls and younger artists coming up after her.
So can we expect Beyonce to be a 55 year old hag still having to go out on tour and shake her flappy butt on stage? I doubt that will ever happen.

I look at it in this aspect nobody’s in Bey’s lane and nobody was in Madonnas lane when she was out. I’m not focusing on the artistry singing and dancing of the two but I think both were trailblazers for their generations. Thats what I think Natalie is talking about because if it was about artistry lady gaga is all Madonna.
