Trayvon Martin scholarship helps graduating seniors from Trayvon’s high school? The fatal shooting of Florida teen Trayvon Martin was indeed a very tragic one that changed the lives of thousands of people both young and old across the country. As Trayvon’s death and the acquittal of the man who took his life George Zimmerman left many devastated, supporters of Trayvon’s family have pulled together to fight for changes to be made to the “Stand Your Ground” laws. A number of positive things have happened after Trayvon’s passing as his friend Rachel Jeantel was offered a full ride to college and his brother Jahvaris Fulton landed an internship with a Florida congresswoman. And now several groups in Orlando, Florida have pulled together to donate $50,000 in the form of a scholarship for four graduating seniors from Trayvon Martin’s high school in Florida according to a report from the Orlando Sentinel. Boyland Auto Group, Invictus Law Group, the Delta Xi Lambda chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and Boyz-4-Lyfe were among the group of donors.

The money will go to the Trayvon Martin Foundation and will divided into four scholarships for seniors of the graduating class of 2014 at Dr. Michael M. Krop Senior High School in Miami, Florida where Trayvon attended school before he was fatally shot.

Hayden Ridore’ of Invictus Law Group says the purpose of the scholarship money is to help teens who are underprivileged and ensure that Trayvon’s death does not go in vain:

“Our aim is to really make this a nonpolitical, positive contribution to this tragic situation. However it turned out legally, it’s something that young kids can learn from. … We want to make sure this young man’s death is not in vain.”

CEO of Boyland Auto Group Dorian S. Boyland says of the scholarship in a statement:

“The purpose of this scholarship is to bridge the socio-economic gap among young people of color in the U.S., through educational opportunities for disadvantaged students who cannot afford a college education.”

The winners of the scholarship haven’t been revealed yet. The donors were set to present the foundation and Trayvon’s parents with the money this past Saturday in Isleworth.
