Vanessa Simmons shocked a lot of folks when she confirmed she is currently expecting her first child with her boyfriend and son to Damon Wayans, Mike Wayans. The Simmons sister took to her Instagram account to confirm the news, and even revealed to her supporters that the happy couple is expecting a baby girl. Although lots of Vanessa’s supporters were excited to learn of the news, her pregnancy has also been met with some criticism considering her father is notable minister Rev. Run Simmons. Many imagined Rev. Run would have been disappointed to learn of Vanessa’s pregnancy, but in a recent interview with Essence Magazine, she reveals her father reacted quite the contrary. She tells the publication:
“There’s this whole idea of first comes the marriage then the baby carriage so I was so nervous. But my dad was actually really excited because this is the first grandchild for my family.
“I think somewhere deep inside he was kinda like, ‘When am I going to experience that part of life?’ Of course he wants us to get married, but for now he was like, ‘We’re gonna figure this out. Just be happy and have a healthy pregnancy. I’m behind you a hundred percent.'”
Vanessa also says that although marriage didn’t come before the baby in her case, she and Mike want to get married after the baby gets here:
“Of course we talk about that and it’s looking good. But I don’t want to be a pregnant bride. I wanna have a beautiful wedding, hopefully a destination wedding where I can show off my figure in a beautiful long flowing dress.”
When it comes to baby names, Vanessa says that she’s “stumped” on names for her baby girl, but she’s super excited that her first child is on the way.
People have kids out of wedlock every day. I don’t see why people have an issue with this. She’s a minister’s kid, not Jesus himself. She isn’t perfect.
Thank you.
I’m glad to her her dad’s being supportive. I’m sure he’ll fall in love when the baby gets here. He’s being a great dad.
I can’t even fault him for choosing to stand behind his daughter despite the “mistake” Christians are judging her for.
People aren’t tearing her down, they are just stating the truth. How can Rev. Run try to minister others when his own daughter isn’t even listening to him?
One cannot control the actions of others. It’s unfair to blame him for her decisions.
It’s just not a good look for Rev. Run and that’s the ugly truth.
So people are trying to judge Vanessa when babies out of wedlock have become a norm in society? It’s not that deep. I’m happy for her. #shrugs
She’s the daughter of a minister. Of course people are going to question it. Not everyone is going to pretend that this situation is ok.
The main people criticizing this girl support gay marriage. Christians always pick and choose what they want to follow. Hypocrites.
Godless people call the truth “judging.” Whatever.
Godless? I’m sorry, are you God? You sure do speak with a lot of authority. You’re letting religion give you a false sense of superiority. That’s not what it’s even about. Smh.
Chile please.
Why are people tripping? Vanessa is a beautiful girl. Damn right she was having sex. She’s grown and that’s her business. LOL.
And I bet Angela be getting it in too. LOL.
Congrats!
What I don’t understand is how she says she doesn’t want to be a pregnant bride but she was cool with being an out of wedlock mom? Girl…….
None of these Christians needs to say anything. They are judging, I thought they weren’t supposed to do that?
I am a Pastor’s daughter and I understand there is a lot of pressure to walk the talk. At the end of the day we are all human, the bible even calls us sinners. God didnt create us to be perfect, he created us to be beautiful in our imperfection. I am happy for her. What’s done is done, no point crying over spilt milk.
Love this.
Babies are a blessing. I can’t believe some people just can’t let her be happy and have this moment. None of us are perfect Christians. And we never will be.
Cosign one hundred times.
That’s good he wasn’t judgmental. Correct response.
Who cares if it’s out of wedlock-she’s happy, her father’ happy, the whole family is happy. Isn’t that all that matters?
It’s not alright.. but it is done. So make the best of the situation and behave with more sense in the future. Congrats. I hope better choices are made in the future.
Oh boy here we go. So what if she’s having a baby and unmarried. Plenty do it all day everyday. Jesus’ mother was an unmarried pregnant teen and look what she birthed into the world. No one knows the reason God placed this child in her womb. Congrats to Vanessa. Children are a gift from the Lord.
as long as he was supportive.that is wonderful.but he seems to be that kind of parent anyways, seems pretty understanding
