Social media was meant to help people get in contact with people we may have lost touch with for whatever reason, but nowadays most can agree that it honestly has become a platform for nothing more than controversy. And no one knows that better than today’s biggest stars, and celebrities have figured out how to nab headlines just by what they tweet and post on Instagram. Reality star Kim Kardashian took a break from the paparazzi in the beginning weeks of being a new mom to daughter North West; but she made a big splash back to a media target after she posted a selfie of herself rocking a sexy white bathing suit to her millions of followers on Instagram. Hours later rapper Nicki Minaj followed suit, but decided to let all her fans see her boobs with the assistance of some leopard print pasties.
Both ladies received mixed reactions from their photos, but plenty of people just feel their behavior sends the wrong message to young women growing up in a social media driven era.
Actress Rashida Jones of hit show “Parks and Recreation” took to her Twitter account a couple of days after the hoopla, and called out the two starlets and others who are using risky social media behavior to get media attention. She tweets:
This week’s celeb news takeaway: she who comes closest to showing the actual inside of her v*gina is most popular. #stopactinglikewhores
Let me clarify. I don’t shame ANYone for anything they choose to do with their lives or bodies…
BUT I think we ALL need to take a look at what we are accepting as “the norm”…
She then mentioned how she feels this behavior can be a dangerous influence on young women:
There is a whole generation of young women watching. Sure, be SEXY but leave something to the imagination.
Although her message was a serious one, she did jokingly request that it is time for the men to show some skin:
Also, calling on all men to show me dat a*s
Neither Nicki Minaj or Kim Kardashian have responded to the tweets as of yet.
She’s wasting her time. Nicki and Kim’s brains are too small to understand the point and they will merely dismiss this as “hating” and “jealousy” like all the other dumb people.
LOL exactly!
THIS!!!!
*round of applause*
Not gonna happen. Kim and Nicki remind me of the girls I went to school with who had the lowest self esteem. To make up for it they slept around and didn’t wear much clothing. They always had to show skin to feel beautiful. They are a lost cause. Not even money or fame can make them smarten up.
We’re talking about two women who paid lots of money for their huge and gross looking a-ses that don’t even match their small frames. To expect class from them is a waste of time.
I want to know how any woman can look at a women being naked as empowerment. To me it’s exactly what men want from us. I feel like singers were more bold back in the 90s because they had clothes on and still managed to be sexy. These people now try too hard.
Just wake me up when men become so desperate for attention that they start taking off their clothes too. I’m pretty sure that will never happen because they still have all the power and they are sitting back and laughing at these dumb female celebs willingly acting like sexual objects.
Thank you! I don’t understand why women have to take it this far and men don’t. It’s so unfair to me.
I blame social media for most of it. It’s like everyone is thirsty for likes or something. They will do anything to get attention on Twitter/IG. It’s pathetic but it’s the times that we live in now.
I see no lies honestly.
I’ve just come to the conclusion that most of the female celebs today are just wack and weak minded. They will do whatever a man tells them to do image wise to get on top. They are nothing but sellouts.
I’m more so disappointed in Nicki because I was rooting for her when she first started rapping and was trying to get on. The next thing I know she’s some sex kitten with a fake booty trying to be Lil Kim. And she’s beyond thirsty now because this isn’t the first time she showed her breasts on Instagram. It’s a turn off for me. I just want to support someone who doesn’t have to do these kinds of things to get attention.
unfortunately power is given to the weak minded ones to persuade these weak minded women tht this is how a woman should portray themselves, which is a-s backwards. Those with common sense know at the end of the day u dnt want to be with somebody tht EVERYBODY can get or had. It seems like the world is changing for the worst, so being a slut is whats “in” now? yeh i’ll pass
