Gabrielle Union is doing lots of promo for the premiere of her upcoming show on BET, “Being Mary Jane.” The pilot for the show did so well in ratings that it was a no brainer for the network to bring it back as a series. During one of her most recent interviews with Essence Magazine (she covers the December issue), she opens up about her past as a Hollywood mean girl who couldn’t deal with other black actresses beating her out for a role she wanted badly. She also spoke candidly  about why she thinks her new show might make people understand that a woman who loves sex should not be considered a ho. She says:

“It would be easy to label Mary Jane a freak…but enjoying sex doesn’t make you a ho. I hope [Being Mary Jane] widens the conversation. I hope people will be more forgiving of those who explore their sexuality unapologetically.”

Do you agree? And on her past as a mean girl, Gabrielle says:

“There’s this intense desire for us all to be chosen by a man, or a job, or chosen for fame, whatever. But when you’re in the public eye and you’re not chosen, the rejection feels public. So to cover the wound, you attack the person who is chosen.”

  1. I’m tired of hearing her talk about how she’s not a mean girl anymore and she’s changed when she just shaded D Wade’s ex wife a few weeks ago on Instagram. Girl sit down.

  2. Gabby and D Wade are made for each other. They both love to front in public like they’re such nice people when they are just as shady as they come.

  3. I’m so tried of her talking about how she USED to be a mean girl when she still is one. Remember how she just gave Kerry that shade oh and how she shaded D Wade’s ex wife on Instagram too a few months ago? Yeah, she hasn’t changed much.

  4. I agree with her. And I’ll leave it at that because I want to give her the side eye for all the mean girl stuff she keeps saying.

  5. I agree but I don’t want to hear this from her. She just aggravates me. How about commenting on women ignoring their men infidelities because she is an expert in that. Or what having affairs with married men. I would rather hear her comments on that instead of this.

  6. It’s perfectly fine to like or even love sex. Just like/love it with one person that isn’t committed to another person, it isn’t that hard.

  7. While reading the comments I kept saying:

Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! Ouch!

    LOL!!!
