Pebbles Reid has been doing lots of damage control since she is furious with how she was portrayed in TLC’s biopic “CrazySexyCool” which was a huge hit on VH1. Pebbles still claims that she did not steal millions from the girl group, and to change the topic of the conversation she even threw out her own accusations and claimed that Chilli had an affair with her ex-husband LA Reid. However, Kandi Burruss says that it was very common for artists to end up with shady contracts like the one that allegedly led TLC to bankruptcy despite having platinum albums.

When asked if she could relate to TLC’s experience with Pebbles, Kandi tells Hip Hollywood:

“Definitely! To me, everybody got a bad deal in the beginning. Even now, people don’t get that great of a deal unless you build your own movement before you got signed.

“For us (Xscape) our deal sucked. We didn’t really get that much money on our first deal. I think we only had the same amount of points–like seven points off the deal. For a lot of people that was the same.”

We’re thinking shady contracts are one of the reasons Kandi became a songwriter for other artists.

  1. There’s no doubt in my mind TLC is telling their truth. I just think it’s time for them to move forward and stop rehashing the past.

  2. Most people know Pebbles is full of it. It’s common for artists to get ripped off by their managers. But she talks as if it’s far fetched.

  3. The music industry is a shady place. Everyone is trying to take advantage of someone. That’s why artists have to READ their contracts before they sign anything.

  4. I just get annoyed that Pebbles denies it like her husband didn’t rip off other artists. It’s common knowledge that LA Reid is crooked. I’m sure she learned all her tricks from him.

  5. Regardless of bankruptcy, Lies, etc I always respected TLC for seeing the bigger picture and sticking together as a group through it all. Other female groups of the 90’s such as Xscape, SWV, Brownstone, Envogue, dropped like flies when tension arose.
